Hey Hey!
We thought we should fill you in about our exploits in a bit more detail! First of due to the snowy weather we are stuck in Queenstown and won't be able to visit the North Island at all. It's a shame, however it gives us an excellent excuse to return to NZ!!
Anyway this blog is really here to explain the amazing photos we have uploaded. As we said we went on a road trip to the Fiordland with Wolfie and Caroline, and did some activities including going to a glow-worm cave and also taking a cruise to Lord of The Ring Country. The glow-worm cave was a really interesting afternoon out which involved a boat cruise and cave tour where we walked though a pitch black cave, and arrived at a little boat which took us further into the cave, and further into the darkness to see the glow-worms! This was very disorientating, as it was sooo dark, and all we could pick out were these tiny little lights which were the glow-worms! It was great fun!
The next day was our Doubtful Sound day trip. We were picked up in the morning and taken to a little boat which took us across Lake Manapouri, to visit a power station - all the trips included this, which was rather strange but hey ho! We then had a lovely drive though the mountains and down the steepest road in New Zealand (this road however, was kind of tame compared to the moped trip in Koh Phangan!!) We got down to the sound and then got onto a larger boat for our 3 hour cruise, which was amazing and all we seemed to be able to do was take photos, because literally everywhere had an incredible scenic view! It was such a wonderful day and really topped off our road trip brilliantly!
The next day the snow came! We found out that most of the roads into Queenstown were closed but amazingly enough managed to get back by lunchtime, only having to push the car up a snow covered hill once! It also made our road trip much more adventurous! The only trouble was that once in Queenstown we were stuck - all the roads had then been closed and so was the airport. We were well and truly stuck! We had to cancel the hire car we had booked to travel up to Auckland in and also our ferry crossing, as there was no way we could have made it up in time for our flight on Thursday! So here we are still in Queenstown, booking our time here night by night as everywhere is full, but making the most of the snow, by having a day on the slopes yesterday!
This was great fun, although not the best conditions ever, it was so windy that at one point I (Tots) was pointing straight down the mountain but nearly at a standstill because the wind was so strong! Very funny! We had a great day though, and we had a laugh once we got used to the wind! And we can now say that we have skied in New Zealand! (Even if only for a day!)
We will keep you posted on how we manage to get out of here - hopefully to catch our flight to Fiji (or change the flight if we can!) Hope you enjoy the skiing photos!
All our love and kisses Tots and Matt xxxxxxxx
