Well hello there!! (Matt writing today though you can prob tell)
We have arrived in NZ, in fact we have been here for over a week now, and what a fantastic week it has been! After the awesome couple of days in Sydney it was nice to have a change of scenery, and you can't get much different to the breathtakingly beautiful mountain scenery of Lake Wanaka (think the highlands and the alps but on a much larger scale!!)
We touched down in NZ, in Christchurch which is a picturesque and very English town in the south island. We were completely unprepared for the minus degree weather and thus we spent a large percentage of our time searching for coats! Once we were all geared up, praying for snow and skiing, we caught a bus from Christchurch to Wanaka. However to our dismay we discovered that we were about a month too early to go skiing due to the hottest May in living memory. But we weren't downhearted due to the ridiculously scenic landscape (I mean seriously the views are 360 degree panoramic) and the vast amount of things to do here (skydiving could be on the cards - we will keep you posted).
We have spent 6 nights in our hostel the Purple Cow which has been our longest stay anywhere in the world! This has been great and not having to pack your bag every three days has been a blessing. In our action packed schedule we have done a lot of sleeping and relaxing, but also a lot of walking. We have met up with Tots cousin (well kind of cousin) - Wolfie and his girlfriend Caroline who are spending the season snowboarding, and who have kindly showed us the sights and chauffeured us around the surrounding area.
The highlight of the trip has been a really cool road trip to the west coast where we also did a number of short walks to beautiful waterfalls and amazing views. In particular we walked to a place called the Blue Pools which were these deep, perfectly clear, yet azure blue pools (original name we thought). It was a very frosty day and as Tots would say bitterly cold. Despite this we packed a picnic and had a really enjoyable day viewing the numerous sights!
Yesterday we had the joy of checking out the diamond of Wanaka's tourist industry Puzzling World. Check out the website - http://www.puzzlingworld.co.nz/ This is split up into the illusion rooms and labyrinth maze. The first was a mind boggling view into the world of illusions and included holograms, the Ames room and the room of following faces. Seeing is believing this place which is why I put the web address up - check it out! The real fun was had in the labyrinth which is a huge multi-level maze. This was incredibly frustrating and everyone apart from Tots gave up and cheated to win (I crawled under several fences). But yeah, again a really interesting day :-)
Unfortunately as per usual our photos are playing hard-to-get so we are going to upload a few taster photos courtesy of Wolfie and Caroline - enjoy!!
Cool, will update you soon and get our photos up and we will see you all in approx one month and six days - crazy stuff!!
Much love Matt and Tots xxx
