Just got back from Cape tribulation where i spent 2 days and 1 night. A huge rainforest over 360 million years old just up from Cairns. Was so nice to get out of the city for a couple of days and just relax away from the hussle and bussle of citylife...cape tribulation itself is beautiful-there's just acres of lush rainforest-large mangrove trees, palms, varying exotic trees......a lovely background to the long sandy beaches-many of which are pretty deserted. This morning there was only 4 of us on the beach next to our hostel! On the way upto cape tribulation we had a scenic coastal drive, stopping at mount cook cookout (from here we could see snapper island-the site where the late steve urwin was diving!!!). Went on a daintree wildlife cruise along the daintree river and saw a snake and a couple of baby croc's! We arrived in cape trib late afternoon and a group of us decided to go for a 'little' walk-about 4-5 hours later we were still walking home in the dark. we did however finally made it to the emmanal (can't spell!) creek after a 3 hour walk along the beach-well we spent more time having to climb all the rocks then actually taking a leisurely stroll alone the beach like we had invisaged.probabaly wasn't the best move to make as could of been pretty nasty if one of us had slipped...but we made it home in one piece and even came across a cassowary (huge bird-think of a emu-like creature-they're all around the rainforest-like to try attack tourists for food-so you have to try make urself taller than them and scare them away-easier said than done!!).
This morning i woke up early to go 'jungle surfing'-you're attached to a harness and basically go flying down zip lines in the rainforest-views were amazing-the ones where we had to go upside down made my stomach go alittle though after just eating brekkie! Returning this afternoon we stopped off at mossman gorge and port douglas. This was the second time i had been to mossman gorge as me and cedric had gone with libby on thursday as she had rented a car for the day (a nice mini convertible!!)-the plan was to go to mossman then go to port douglas-however cedric had abit of a accident at the gorge and we had to return to cairns to take him to the medical centre-we "cleverly" decided to find a secluded spot to go swimming, we found a small pool where the current wasn't too strong but then cedric went a slipped-the current washed him down the waterfall and he ended up not being able to walk on his right leg-his knee the size of a football! that'll teach us!!
hmmmmm....what else....loads of people have gone and moved on from cairns now-which is a shame, but i'm going to be catching a flight to alice springs tomorrow and then i begin my uluru tour on wednesday-so really looking forward to that, as will be a change of scenery form the east coast.
OOO..I tried kangaroo the other night-but i'm not too sure it agreed with me coz i felt v. ill the next day. however this could be due to the fact that we brought it and cooked it ourselves, and were told that it was only cooked quickly and to be eaten pretty rare....hmmm....!i think next time i try it it'll be in a restuarant. No offence to our wonderful chef-CHELLE thou-ah i miss you! how's the job going in sydney?
I dunno what the internet avaliability is going to be like on my tour so it'll probabaly be atleast a week till the next update. but everyone take care and i'll write again soon xxx
