Yup, i'm still here. We eventually tearing ourselves away from Byron tomorrow and heading to Surfers Paradise till Thursday.
On Thursday, me, erin, jb and helen spent the morning at a jewellery making workshop. I opeted to make a pair of earring-which turned out pretty dam good if i do say so myself. It's not as easy as it looks though, the hardest bit was choosing what stones/beads etc to include in the design. We all enjoyed it though and have learnt a new skill, which is never a bad thing. The sun was out in the afternoon so we made the best of it and headed to Main beach to catch a few rays and have a splash around in the sea (which was suprisingly warm-i hadn't yet experience the see here as every other day i was informed it was bloody freezing, and you know i'm not good with the cold!). In the evening we just went upto the beaches hotel and sat watching the live band (very chill out music) that was playing for an hour or so.
On Friday we got up early (4.30am) to head to Cape Byron (the most easterly point in australia) up to the lighthouse to see the sunrise. Catching a lift up in the car with Grant and jean-paul (roommates)-we had all the good intentions of walking there but the offer was to good to turn down, especially seen as it was still pitch black at this time and pretty cold. We eagerly awaited for the sunrise by captian cook's lookout, along with around about 30 other early risers. But the early start was definately worth it! As the sun began to rise around 5.45am. There was the rich orange colour rising above the sea line, the sky a mix of oranges, red, blues, pink, purple. It was spectacular As it slowly rose the brightness of the orange getting more and more intense..! You could tell it was going to be a lovely day. Once the sun was up me and Helen took the walk back to the hostel-following a path through the national park area, through lush green tree's with the sun shining between the canopy of the branches. The path lead us down onto the main beach, where people were already up catching the early morning surf along with a numerous people jogging along the beach front-very energetic for this time in the morning. We made it back to our hostel @ 7am, and had a little nap to catch up on our lost hours of sleep. That afternoon-it was pretty overcast by now-we appeared to of slept all the way through the sunshine-typical! Wanting to get out of the town and explore the area abit more we hired some biees and cycled out towards Broken head (went pass the site where they're holding the blues and roots music festival at the weekend-so gutted i didn't know bout it all earlier-you know how i like my music festivals!) and stopped Tallow beach to chill out for a while and have some lunch. We were sharing the beach with about 10 other people, it was so peaceful just sitting there taking in the view of the pristine sandy beach and clear blue sea, even the fact that it was overcast couldn't put a dampner on things. Just the sound of the waves crashing in the background, no screaming kids or the chatter of peoples conversations!Bliss. We decided to take a different route back with took us alone some of the back streets (helen, the houses here are lovely-we'd be in our element going through the propertys pages for this area!lol!) and through a national park area, over the river, before we stopped off at a cute little cafe for a drink and biked back into Byron town to explore some of the back streets-it's amzing how much you can miss in a relatively small town, there are lots of very kitsh, yet expensive little shops and cafes hid away in the backstreets. Returning back to the hostel late afternoon. Yup you guessed it we headed upto cocomangas and cheeky monkeys again, as the new mojo surf crew had come into town, and was a chance to get to know our new roommates.
Yesterday, we were at abit of a lose end really-not really knowing what to do with our day we chilled on the beach for a abit, and generally just muddles around sorting out bits n bobs. Which is sometimes nice to do as gives u chance just to chill out and take it everything that's been happening.
This morning, we've been to the byron bay market (the one that was in banaglow last sunday)-seemed much bigger than the one last weekend, just a shame that it rained AGAIN!lol! finally stopped now though...so on that note i better make the most of it and head out of this internet cafe...
Take care everyone, keep those messages coming....
