Hiya. Arrived safely in Bangkok after the longest journey ever. Taxi to Khaosan Road took ages then broke down - luckily close to our hotel. We arrived on the king's birthday so saw loads of fireworks displays as we landed. The whole city was having a major party (and all wearing yellow strangely enough) but with the lack of sleep or care for anything other than a bed it was all a bit of a blur. Hotel really nice. We met a bunch of people last night who laughed at us for staying somewhere nice and expensive (although actually not expensive at all) but we were the ones laughing when this guy described his room as probably worse than prison! True to form I'm nursing a terrible hangover today. Pez - I blame you for recomending Sang som buckets - lethal!
Yesterday we went to see some temples and the standing budda and generally took in the city. It is just how I expected , busy, noisy, polluted and very hot! Khaosan is awesome with loads of travellers, street vendours, bars etc. After getting lost a few times (we thought we would try and walk - bad idea) we got a taxi. As he pulled over to let us out I opened the door, just as a little thai man on a scooter was driving past. He smacked straight into the dorr and everyone came to check out what was going on - so embarrassing! I'm sure I broke his fingers. But he rode off smiling thank god!
Having nearly killed a Thai I thought it would be a good idea to get a tuk tuk which took us to a few more temples as well as a tailors and jewellry shop (they work on commission). Also went to book the night train to Chaing Mai but it is booked up which is a shame. We could have got the overnight bus but having just done such a long plane journey neither of us can face a coach trip, so we have decided to go straight down to Samui tomorrow. But gutted that we wont be going to Chaing Mai but seeing as we have such a short time in Thailand we realised that we won't really be able to fit it all in. So the beached are calling - can't wait!
Going to go and chill out by our pool on the roof terrance then do some shoppinh in the night markets tonight. And not drink Dad - don't worry. I'll try not to physically abuse any more of the locals. Think Bangkok will be happy to see the back of us!
Having a great time. Love you all lots - miss you. Laur hope you had a great 22nd. Had a few too many drinks for you last night!
Love alway V xxx
