A short tuctuc to the coast where we bumped into Sarah who I met in Mumbai and she advised us of a good place to stay. Villa Rodrigues! Got a 200-rupee double bed, shower and western toilet, even a mosquito net and fan! So I couldn't grumble for 1.50 pound each a night! And, practically on the beach.
Got the sungod straight out and was playing beach cricket in no time with the local Indians! They had a load of absolutely mental rules such as no runs behind the wicket and one-bounce-catch and out! I soon changed that for the masses! One-hand-one-bounce! Me and Chris weren't the only tourists, there was an Aussie, a guy from Leeds,a guy from Hertfordshire. It was a good way to send the afternoon and a great laugh with all of the Indians taking it so seriously, arguing, shouting at one another, getting upset when they didn't win or the umpire gave a wide. Good banter.
Ended up taking a lot of the day, so a quick shower and we were back out to see an awesome sundowner. A complete congregation of hippies stoned and drunk were playing hand drums, spinning fireballs, doing joga, dancing, chilling, frisbeeing, lots of unusual activities going on that were obviously their personal kind of hobbies but the atmosphere was incredible. Just sat on a beach with a beer watching all these lunatics do their things. And more amusingly the westerners trying to be hippies like one guy in his 50s shaking a matchbox. Go on son!
It was a perfectly romantic destination with all the bars and restaurants stretching their furniture out onto the beach in the darkness with candles lighting up the tables. So we had a nice meal and bought a 3-pound bottle of raspberry flavoured vodka. Chris was offered a monstrous amount of weed for like 10-15 quid so we had plenty of work to do for the next few weeks! I don't even like it to be honest but it felt rude not to when he offered!
Walked around the village and had a couple of drinks on the beach listening to the waves but there weren't many people around (as it wasn't the high season) so we called it a night.
