Well-known runner Gabriel Solaisse (guessed his spelling), funds or organises this massive annual marathon in Addis, called the Great Ethiopian Run. Around 75,000 people took part, with thousands more watching. If we had have known earlier we would have taken part, it looked fun (despite the heat) and was only 10km!
Whilst we were watching the race, Jack and I were interviewed by some guy about comparing marathons to our country, our views on Ethiopia etc, we were recorded by some kind of media, and were also collared into getting into a photo with a couple of the runners who had finished! Don't know what was going on but it was weird that we were like special guests or something!
We walked next to the Ethiopian National Sports stadium, was reasonably big (not like a Premiership ground though as you'd probably expect) and saw loads of people playing table football outside. Even though they're not well known for it, there are so many Ethiopians that love football-they are obsessed!
Breakfast today had been Pains-au-choc and an OJ, so we needed our regular tomato and avocado baguette fix. So cheap to eat like that.
Back at Andy's, I had a disaster and broke his toilet chain. Only I could do something like that. It was only like a thin rubber, plastic line and as I pulled a little too hard to ensure a good flush - it snapped. s***! Still flushed though and Andy didn't seem too pissed off!
Kath made delicious chicken and vegetable soup for tea before Marlo the American took us out to see some of the nightlife.
He took us to this cool, jazzy-like nightclub where there was some live bands playing. One cover of Mario-Let Me Love You, was awesome! Lots of places were closed because it was a Sunday but this Swedish bar called Stockholm was pretty buzzing so had a look in there. Six bottles of beer over the night set me and Jack back 200 Birr (8quid), which was very expensive given the 3Birr beers we had had!
Marlo drove us round the city, which you can do basically what you like in (drink n drive, speed etc), and showed us his rich pals houses, where he was setting up his own cafe and clothes shop business as well as the hundreds of nightwalkers!
Found out he was a semi-pro Baseball star in the States and is 37 - though he looks about mid-20s!
