Jack and I had a lie-in but felt rough despite having only had three beers night before! An early coke/sprite didn't help either - but severe belching did! Pizza slices from the bakery did the trick too.
We took a long walk around the city centre for our last day, which included pottering around a mall where Jack lied his way into a guy's heart thinking he was going to sign up for a 4-month 3D animation course! It sounded cool! The only reason we were there was because we wanted to know what 4D was that was advertised outside!
We re-visited Edna Mall, probably the most modern part of Addis, with a games area for kids which was huge, a cinema, bars, bank, etc. Stood on a balcony quite high up at the mall, we witnessed the crazy roads of Addis occupied by a lone donkey just trotting through the big roundabout. Don't think his owner was too pleased.
Animal rights would have a field day out here, they would hate it. We saw two dead dogs (at least) on the side of the road - was sad. Then the horses laboured all day for horse and cart, the donkeys for carrying stuff up the hills, the chickens rammed into tiny spaces etc.
Walking around the city, there were always guys just being friendly, wanting to chat, wanting to learn more English (they were often older students like 30), and Jack was the one always lumbered with them! I would just walk ahead - and Ballard would be stuck chatting for about half-an-hour. Oops....
We did get asked to work as teachers when in Debre Zeyit by some rich looking guys, who were insisting that foreign teaching is the best for these children but they seemed a tad dodgy so unlucky for [email protected] because that's the email I sold them!
Exchanged our first bit of money at the bank (awesome rate) 10 quid got us 268 Birr. They accepted my out of date NUS card from first year of uni as ID.
Our tea this evening included some dodgy meat cooked by the cleaner (a young local girl) and I thought it was rank.
Jack dragged me to see Harry Potter 7 at the cinema despite me wanting to see Due Date. But for 44 Birr (1.7 pounds), we had two tickets entry into a good cinema, two bottles of mirinda (orangeade stuff), massive mango juice and two boxes of popcorn. Winner.
Entertaining walk home where we got hassled by local hookers offering themselves for the equivalent of less than 4 quid!
