Tom - World Tour!
The last leg of our trip took us from Varanassi in the north 1500 Km south to the buisness capital Mumbai (Bombay). The train took us 28 hours to get there which is always interesting on Indian trains! About half way through the middle of the country there seemed to be an area where people hadn't seen western tourists before, so we and a couple of French girls who sat next to us had vast audiences at most train stations and at one stage, even on the train when about 20 students all crammed into our sleeping section and started asking questions!
Mumbai is probably the most modern and nicest city so far in India with plenty of slick dodgy looking Bollywood wannabees! You can be extras in a film as a tourist over here for 500 rupees (6-7 pounds) for 10 hours work so we thought sightseeing and relaxing for a few days would be the better option! The monsoon finally caught up with us here so there was more eating and relaxing than sightseeing!
After 3 days in Mumbai we headed south to Goa for our last few days on the trip. Being lazy, we thought we'd organise a bus out of Mumbai through the hotel. Rather than take the train, the bus takes 8 hours to get to Goa and will take us straight to Baga where we are staying. We ended up laughing quite a lot later as the bus took 3 hours to leave the city and then seemed to stop at every cafe and toilet stop (or side of the road) on the way! Finally after another 15 hours and thinking that perhaps we got on the wrong bus and had gone to Dehli, we had arrived in Mapsa a town near to Baga!
So after a short taxi ride we arrived in Baga and found some accomodation next to the beach. We have been lucky to miss the monsoons down here however at the moment as I look out the internet cafes door its chucking it down! So today we are picking up a few souvenirs and chilling out on the beach before we fly back to Mumbai then Delhi for our flight home. Hope the weather is good in the UK!! See you soon T
