Tom C-B's Travels 2006
FRIDAY
With no real plans added to the solid drinking session the night before, this morning turned out to be a rather sluggish affair! When we finally galvanised ourselves, it was early afternoon so Kim set off towards Palm Beach, the hallowed set of Home and Away. Harry, Izzy and I went to Sydney fish market for our seecond fish and chip feast in as many days. The 'seafood basket' was the pick of the day this time, with an irresistible combination of calamari rings, pieces of battered fish, tempura prawns and chips. A very satisfying meal later, we wandered around the fish market for a while longer as the weather was not very nice, and bought two of the juiciest oranges ever for dessert!
In the end, we accepted the fact that we were going to get wet so braved the elements and made our way back to the hostel, stopping off for an encouraging hot chocolate on the way. Kim had not yet returned from her trip to Palm Beach so the three of us went to the Internet café to fulfill various email duties. When we got back to the room, Kim was back and had already dined on a selection of roasted vegetables, so, with Izzy feeling slightly under the weather, Harry and I went out to Chinatown's night markets for food. We discovered a restaurant that specialized in sizzling dishes, so Harry got the sizzling Sichuan Beef, and I got the sizzling Beef and black bean sauce. Both were extremely good and sufficiently sizzling, so we were pleased with our foray into traditional cuisine. We walked back through the rain to the hostel and found the girls ready for bed! We had just received news that we were not required for work on Saturday so we could have gone out for a drink or two, but it simply wasn't on the cards, and everyone swiftly settled in for the night.
SATURDAY
Another slow start to the day meant that our planned excursion to Taronga Zoo was to be put on hold, so we just chilled out at the hostel for a while longer and I breakfasted on peanut butter sandwiches and eggy bread. Harry and Izzy then went out to sort out travel arrangements for later on in their trip, so Kim and I came to the Internet café, and here I am...! Tonight I think we are going to go down to the harbour to 'Mrs Macquarie's Chair', which is apparently the best place from which to take photos of The Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. From there we will probably seek out Roberta, a Brazilian girl who Kim and I met in New Zealand, who is a chef at a restaurant in North Sydney.
So that's the plan - I'll get back to you sometime soon to tell you if it was put into action ...
Lots of love, keep doing what you do,
Tom xx
