Tom C-B's Travels 2006
MONDAY
Harry and I were both up at 6:30am today as we both had a full day of removals ahead, so we left the room quietly so as not to disturb the slumbering girls, who had apparently returned from Neighbours Night somewhat 'merry'...
It was another hard day's graft, which saw us negotiating three flights of concrete stairs with a precious (but bloody heavy) dining table, squashing sofas into apartment building lifts, and carrying more boxes than I've ever seen in my life! We only did one job as opposed to three the previous day, but it took us from 7:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon, so we felt like we had put in a respectable innings! Today was payday so we collected our wages for the two days ($200!) and clocked off at about 4:30. We got back to the hostel and showered quickly before meeting up with the girls to discuss the plans for the evening. It was agreed that we should go to 'Scubar' for the simply unmissable crab racing, so we had a bite to eat and went out in time for the opening race of the evening at about 9:30. It was a strange affair, with all crabs starting in the middle of a circle, and the first one to get to the edge won! I can't say I'm hooked, but it was an interesting experience all the same. We weren't going for a late one as we were moving hostels in the morning, so we stayed civilised and got back to the hostel to pack up our room. I was pretty sorted as I had not taken everything out of my bag, but Kim, Harry and Izzy had a good tidying-up sesson before we turned out the lights and went to sleep.
TUESDAY (today)
Check out time was 10am so we got our stuff together, checked out on time, left our stuff in reception, and then went back upstairs to make breakfast. We had decided on the aquarium today so when we had finished our brekkie we checked in to our next hostel, and walked down to 'Darling Harbour'. The aquarium was pretty interesting, my favourite part being the Oceanarium where the sharks were kept. Unfortunately, we didn't see them being fed but they were impressive nonetheless. After the aquarium we took a stroll round the harbour over to the famed fish market. It was just closing up as we got there allowing us only a brief look around, so we made a mental note to go back later in the week.
We walked back and bought the ingredients for tonight's dinner, which is to be gourmet style burgers in case you were wondering, and I seized the opportunity to hop on the internet to give you guys the lowdown on my first few days in Sydney. So there you have it, and I hope you have enjoyed it, and I will hopefully be back on here asap!! Now for burgers...
