Tom C-B's Travels 2006
Hey everybody! Let me tell you about the last few days...
SUNDAY
It all started the previous evening when our boss told Harry and me that we were not required for work today. That meant that we could go to the highly acclaimed Taronga Zoo, which was a short bus ride out of the city.
We arrived at midday so that we could get our money's worth of animal-filled fun! Too may animals to mention here but, to name a few; giraffes, lions, snow leopards, rhinos, orang-utans, seal shows, and much much more! A full 3 and a half hours later, we walked out via the gift shop to marvel at how cute and soft the cuddly toys were (girls, not Harry and me!). We got back to the city and briefly walked through Sydney's 'Little Italy' before going to buy dinner, which was to be spag bol with bacon! We went out after dinner to 'Side' bar for some live music, and got back to our hostel at about midnight and set our alarms, as we had to be checked out by 10am the next morning!
MONDAY
We woke up to pouring rain so checked out at 10 and had a leisurely breakfast in the hope that by the time we had finished the rain would have subsided... We had no such luck, so we decided to try the tactic again and watched the comedy channel in the hostel common room for about an hour! It was not to be - the rain was still coming down like there was no tomorrow so we decided to go for it and we dashed (as only one can with a massive rucksdack in tow!) to the bus stop to get the bus to Bondi. I'm sure you've all heard of Bondi beach and how amazing it is supposed to be in the glittering sunshine. Yeah well...imagine it in the pouring rain and then re-assess that image. Got it in your head? Well that's exactly what we turned up to when we stepped off the bus! We struggled to our hostel, checked in for only one night, and debated what to do for the rest of the day. We decided that we would go and get supplies for dinner and come back and chill at the hostel, as there was nothing else to do in Bondi apart from go to the beach. The evening was pretty relaxed, and we all fell asleep dreaming of wearing swimming attire, flip flops, and warmer weather.
TUESDAY
We left Bondi somewhat less than inspired, and got on the bus towards Coogee, another beachside town recommended to us by a girl we met in New Zealand. It was still raining when we turned up, but we were encouraged by the quality of the hostel and then, as if our prayers had been answered, the clouds parted to reveal the sunshine that we thought had deserted us for good!! With big smiles all round, Harry and I treated oursleves to some of the best fish and chips we have had, on a par with those from Manly and Sydney Fish Market. We then toyed with the notion of a swim, and I came to the internet cafe leaving Harry to decide.
So that brings you up to date and who knows, next time I'm on here, I may have had my first dip in Australian waters...!
