>Today is our last day in Kanchanaburi. We have spent 5 fantastic days here after we originally only booked in for one night but fell in love with the hotel, people, food and the area we was staying in.
Our first day here we visited the Bridge over the River Kwai as its only a 10 min walk from Hotel (see photos). We walked around the bridge and into the museum where there was a large lizard sleeping on the floor and didn't have a care in the world as we started taking photos next to it. We sat and had coffee in a cafe with a baby leopard next us and Lee had photos taken feeding it some milk. We tried to get a ride on the train which passed through Hell Pass but we only had a 1000 bht note and he would not give us any change, I was waiting on the train but we had to get off and they only ran one train a day so we was really disappointed that we missed out on that as we made plans for the next few days.
Day 2
We hired a bike very cheaply from a shop not far from the hotel and we visited Erawan Waterfalls. It took us about 3 hours to get here as at one stage we thought we got lost so started heading back then realised we wasn't so turned around and carried on. It was late in the afternoon when we arrived and we had 7 waterfalls to visit. We only managed to see 5 as the park was closing but I have to say it was one of my best days. I absolutely loved swimming in the clear water, even didn't mind having the fish swimming around me and tickling my feet, a free fish spa. We swam under waterfalls and out the other side it was just wonderful. The only reason we left was because the park was closing.
3rd day was spent at the Tiger Temple. This was somewhere we ummed about as on the travel sites they are not recommending people to go. A recent Tv documentary found signs of neglect with the tigers, that they were drugged before being let out to vistors and their conditions were poor. But we decided to go to make up our mind as where else would you have the opportunity the interact with tigers. We decided to visit in the morning as it so much busier in the afternoon up to 300, there was only 20 of us. Yes there are something's you look at and think things could be done better, and the tigers are chained when the public is around.
This is just for safety, the tigers we saw were playful, alert and we did not feel as we we were in danger at anytime. We had a wonderful experience at the temple and took over 600 photos but of course we have deleted a lot.
So sadly we are leaving Kanchanburi but looking forward to moving on to Chiang Mai.
