We got a VIP bus to Rayong and had a really comfortable journey. I had down loaded Pride & Prejudice onto my IPad so enjoyed the 6 hour journey engrossed in Mr Darcy which was good news for Lee as he could then nod off as and when he pleased and he didn't have me fidgeting and talking him to death like I normally do.
We arrived in Rayong which is only about an hour from Pattaya. The bus did stop in Pattaya and as we was passing through we did look at it disapprovingly and wondered why anyone would want to holiday there!
We arrived in Rayong got our bags off the bus, and I nipped off to the loo. When I got back Lee was chatting to
some Thai lady and it turned out that there were no taxis or tuk tuks at this bus station. We stood there in disbelief as never before on our travels when you pull up at a station had there not been someone hassling you to take you to your destination. We just didn't know what to do and this Thai lady was doing everything to help us and find out where our hotel was located. After she phoned a friend it turned out the hotel was on the road we was located on and we managed to get a Songthaew and our hotel was only about 2km away and only cost us 10bht (20p). Again our hotel was just lovely it was quite new, the room was big and spacious but we had ended up in the middle of bloody nowhere again.
We left our room and jumped on a songthaew in the hope we would find some where to eat, after what seemed like ages we decided to get off and walked Into a resturant that we thought was Thai and would just have a go and ordering some fried rice and maybe a Thai curry, turns out the place was Vietinese so we looked abit daft when we asked for a Thai curry, but the waiter was friendly and offered to cook us tom kha kai (chicken soup with coconut milk and galangal), som tam (papaya salad), He asked if we wanted it spicy and we said no but when it came out it really was spicy and nearly blew our head off, we tried to eat it but we couldnt as it was so hot so we just asked the bill and after walking for quite sometime we managed to flag down a song thaew and returned to our hotel. Another bad decision so back on the Internet and we decided to book in to a beach resort.
The next morning we had a good breakfast lovely friendly staff greeted and served us. We packed, checked out and got a taxi to Siri on Sea. It took about an hour and we managed to do the same thing again and book a hotel in the middle of nowhere. The hotel looked very cosy, white colonial type feel but very dated. Looked like some maintenance work was going on so there was some improvements being made. We was shown to a small chalet which was ok but had seen better days. We was right by the sea but it was very choppy due to it being low season. We went into the resturant and disturbed some Thai lad trying to have a kip so he was but grumpy that we had disturbed him. We ordered some food and drink which was tasty and relaxed on the comfy sofas. We stayed for a while but when we ordered the bill was horrified that we had been charged a service charge and tax, it was only a bloody 3* hotel why were they putting on these charges, disgruntled we paid the bill and was disappointed as we knew would not go back there for dinner. We had a walk along the beach and although everything was closed there was a little shack called "Ken,s" that seemed open and ok so we decided to go back there for dinner. We returned to the room to chill out as it was too blustery on the beach, got showered and changed and went and had a lovely meal at Kens. There we made the decision on our next move and that was to go to - omg can't believe I'm going to say it - we decided to go to Pattaya as it was only an hours drive and from there it would only be an hour to Bangkok.
We had the taxi number of the guy who brought us to the hotel so we phoned him and asked what price it would be so arranged for him to pick us up and take us to. So PATTAYA here we come.
