Helloooo! And here we are in Worthing. After raining for 3 days in a row (copying you guys in Canberra) we have finally been blessed with a typical English summer day, low 20's, cloud around, very pleasant. But before we get into the day we will give a quick run down of what we have been up to the last few days.
Last Friday we made the trip down to Brighton by bus (then train to worthing) loaded up with our full backpackers attire (the big bag). The bus driver was very nice in telling us which stop to get off at so we could easily catch the train to worthing... its a shame he let us off at the wrong stop. He had pointed us up a fairly substantial hill towards the train station, so we made the trek up that way. Tiring in our backpacks we reached the top to find the ticket office closed at 5 (it was currently 6:30). When we looked at the train timetable we saw there were 4 trains to worthing during the whole day... luckily, we were 20 minutes early for one of them (if not it could have been potentially a diaster). If we had gotten off at Brighton, it would have been a 100m walk or so and an easy train their, but in the end, all was well!
Next day we were taken to Oxford by my uncle and aunt, Peter and Nina. Both my uncles went to Oxford Uni, and Peterwas able to disclose many funny stories from his time there. Nina also grew up in Oxford, so needless to say, both knew the area pretty well. It is a beautiful town, and amazing how the city sort of melded in with the University (so much so that the University made up a fair bit of the high street). We also had lunch in the Turf Tavern, and we tried out first room-temperature beer - Bitter. It was fairly bitter but now too bad.
Since that point we have been lazing round at home, largely indoors, while it has been raining. Eliza made one exception to this. The rain had reduced to what she described as a "light drizzle", and was inspired to go for a run. When she returned 45 minutes later, it became evident that it had not stayed a light drizzle, and she was soaking wet. Tom speadily bailed out of the offer to accompany Eli on her great expidition, and read his book in the warmth of the house. However, he was thoughtful enough to have a towel ready for her when she got back!
That has been about it, lots of reading, ohh and lunch with my counsin Ben and his wife (roast chicken, cooked with a beer shoved up its bumm, they're English- don't ask-however tasted bloody good), all very relaxing. Our next big adventure on the cards though is a trip into London to see a day of the Tennis at Wimbledon... more news to come on that journey!
