Sun, smiles and Peter
Hello :)
I have just got in my own tent, put my iPod on and lay down to have a chill :) I no longer need to wear 4 layers, I don't have my socks on in bed, I have my own space and I'm in my new sleeping bag liner! This is bliss!
Today we moved to our second camp. After leaving Moshi we had around a 3 hour drive through North Tanzania before turning off the main road and disappearing out into the wilderness. Our new camp has an electric fence and armed guard but is stunning!! There is nothing around for miles apart from open land, the odd tree and wildlife. On our journey we saw Giraffe, Zebra, Gazelle, Antelope and loads of tiny little Monkeys! It was amazing to see the kids faces as it now feels like we have entered Africa and not just gone away for a wet weekend in The Lakes!
When we arrived camp manager Reggie, who is really nice, met us and then I had another goose bump moment! I was just briefing the team when around the corner walked a guy called Peter. I know Peter from my time in Kenya and it was great to see him again! It was Peter who took me to hospital in Kenya with the little boy with the infection in his shin and once I shared this story he knew exactly who I was! From his point of view he is really chuffed that someone he led as a gapper 2 years ago is now back as a leader :)
Camp Description - 2 rows of tents for the girls, 4 staff tents at each corner, 1 leader tent for me :) This camp has the usual bucket showers but also has long drop toilets! I've never used one before and they bloody stink! The perks of being staff though are paying off as we have our very own newly built hole in the ground complete with plastic adult size potty over the hole and canvas surround! Like I said it is bliss here!
The activities planned here sound really good but I will save them until my next blog... Tonight I have enjoyed another meal, which I managed to keep inside me, and then taught the singers in the group some songs! These ranged from Stand by me to Breakfast Calypso!
Anyway... As i finish this the kids are in good spirits, I'm looking forward to a few warm days and a good nights sleep on my own :)
Night all x
