Fourth stop Chicago
The train journey was surprisingly good. The guy sitting next to me was really cool. He was traveling America and reading "On The Road" too.
We were told that the Albany to Chicago train is famous for being late. The tracks are owned by frieght companies and therefore Amtrak trains have to wait for frieght trains to go through so hold ups are very common. However the only slight hold up was when a U.S. Marshall came on the train and arrested someone right in front of us and sent more people off too. It was breif and there was no real trouble.
We arrived at 10am in Chicago on the 17th September. We checked in to our four star Crown Plaza Hotel (thanks Kevin) and slept all day after such a long journey.
On the 18th we walked around the city centre to the park and along the Magnificent Mile. We had been told that Chicago is the only true American City in terms of Architecture, and it is. There is a Gotham City look to some of the buildings.
On the 19th we went for cocktails, French Martinis to be exact, on the 96th floor of the John Handcock building looking out over the whole city. We met a really nice couple, Lee and Debora, who live in California. They gave us thier email address and said they would show us round L.A when we got there.
After that we went for dinner and out. We met a couple of mad Irish girls in the pub that managed to convince everyone there that I was a member of the band Snow Patrol.
On the 20th we split up and decided to explore the city on our own. Great minds think alike because we both ended up at Naval Pire. A carnaval type place on the water where there are various river tours and boats to look at.
On the 21st we got the train to Denver 20 hours straight...
