Seventh Stop San Francisco The USA hostel in Hollywood had a shuttle bus for $40 that dropped you off at the door of the USA hostel in San Francisco. It’s a seven hour drive from LA to San Fran so we arrived about 7:30 on the 10th October (Ian your card is in the post).
On the 11th we had booked a hostel called Pacific Winds in San Fran’s China Town. It is one of the more cramped and less private hostels we have been in but the best. The atmosphere there is very chilled and friendly, very much like San Francisco itself.
We had pre booked tickets for Alcatraz for the 12th. It turned out very lucky because they where sold out when we got there and for the following day too. Alcatraz was brilliant, very interesting. The guide was very informative about the Island and answered every question asked.
We had met a bunch of people in the hostel and we all went out together. They were: Fabian from Switzerland, Chris form England, Kathy from Australia, and Greg and Zeus from Virginia.
On the 13th we had lunch at Fisherman’s Warf with Greg, Zeus and Chris. We then walked to the Squiggly Street and then got the bus to the golden gate bridge. We walked over to the other side 1.8 miles and back again. Walking across you can reach the suspension cables and the vibration of the car going across the bridge.
That night we went out for dinner in a fancy Chinese restaurant as we were in China town. The waiter, this old Chinese guy, told us that he was from Scotland. Seeing we were struggling to believe him he went on to say he used to work in Union st across from Central Station in Glasgow about 30years ago.
The next day we went back to LA…
