T&KonTour
Sunday 20 March, Queenstown to Dunedin
Everyone was packed and ready to go by 8.20am so we hit the road, heading east through the Kawarau Gorge which features in "The Lord of the Rings" movie. We stop at the Suspension Bridge for a kodak moment and had it to ourselves. The first group of bungee victims arrived in a couple of minibuses just as we left.
We wind our way towards the town of Cromwell and manage to find the "Heritage Precinct" which turns out to be a couple of streets of historic buildings. No charge for entry and it just happens to be market day so we peruse the stalls and buy some locally made cheeses, and rabbit pies.
We follow route 8 south to Lawrence and decide to stop for lunch. By 2.30pm we are driving along George Street in Dunedin, which is relatively quiet on Sunday afternoon, although many of the shops are open. We spend a couple of hours walking around this well-established city. Tony and Kathy check out the Octagon (city centre), the railway station, the Albion pub (with hand pumps for the beer so Tony was in love) and the Speights Ale house next door to the brewery. Colin fancied Chinese for tea tonight so we had a modest dinner at the Golden Harvest restaurant, just along George Street.
