Tuesday 10 June, Day 16.
We are heading ENE back towards Fiji, but this time to the north of the main island of Viti Levu. Our destination will be the second island of the Fiji group, and the little town of Savu Savu. But to get there it will take 2 full days at cruising speed. Today there is a bit of a swell which is making some people uneasy. The girls are taking pills but Alan & Tony are fine. Alan self-medicates using the age-old alcohol cure.
The morning is a bit bleak with rain, but it clears up before lunchtime, so time to find a spot out of the wind and work on the tan. There is a head wind up to 20 knots and the Paul Gauguin is making 15 knots so it's a mite breezy!
On board we have entertainments such as a lecture on the ports to come, archaeological and cultural expert talk, trivia and bingo games, dance lessons, zumba exercise etc. etc. And of course there is always the bar or the casino. First thing in the morning, before most people are up, is usually the best time for uploading photos to the blog. Other times it is so slow that nothing happens. But we should be impressed that the satellite system works at all.
Wednesday 11 June, Day 17.
Much smoother today as the captain promised. Jo will be pleased. Our captain comes from Croatia, not Italy so we feel in safe hands. Most of the crew is Phillipino and generally quite a happy lot. The waiters know our names and what out favourite tipple is now. Only another 3 days on the cruise though.
We have put our names down for a clipper cruise with Bare Necessities in 2016. An interesting itinerary I thought, including the northern Greek isles, Dardanelles, Istanbul, and the Black sea coast of Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. Unfortunately, we are only wait listed for the type of cabin we need because Kathy has an issue with portholes that do not open.
I will put a few shots below for our naturist friends today. Nothing too confronting, but if people without clothes is not your thing, don't look!
