Had breakfast at the hotel, fuel for the long day ahead of us. I had arranged a full day tour with Angel Tours. Using our Roma Pass, we took the metro to the Colloseo station. The train, of couse, was packed and had issues, so all passengers had to get off and board the nect train. We still managed to make it on time to meet our guide Daniel, an Irish academic. Angel Tours consists mostly of Irish students who are history mjors and have a great sense of humour. Our morning tour started at the arch of Constantine, then walked over to Palatine Hill, then the Colloseum. Daniel is a great story teller and really knows his stuff, he is also very entertaining. Decded to head back to our hotel so Laura could have a cool shower and change into clothes that covered our shoulders and knees, this is a requirement for the Vatican tour. Had a quick lunch, salad and bruschetta, then off we went to the next tour. We met our guide Sean at the Piazza del Popolo, in front of the obelisk. The tour is called an Eco tour, which is part walking and part driving in a golf cart. Another driver so naturally, I volunteered to do it since I did have my international permit with me. Besides, I was determined to drive somewherebin Italy. The whole experience was a hoot, as we drove around the streets of Rome, which was quite an experience. Some areas were a bit daunting, so I decided to drive like an talian, and just go for it. The car does not really go very quick. but we managed to cover a lot of ground. Sean, having lived in Rome for 10 years really knows the area and hisotry quite well. Our tour went overtime, as Sean did not want to rush it. He obviously loves his job, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Our next tour started at 6:15 at St. Peter's square. Our guide Ben is another Irish history major who is an expert on the Vatican art, and the Basilica. Although the evening tour is supposedly less crowded, there were still a lot of people around. I can't imagine what it would have been like in the morning. The museum is so overwhelming, by the time we got to the Sistine chapel my feet and legs were sore, and it took a lot of will power to walk around tring to find the freaking metro station back to our hotel. We were both too tired to have dinner, and crashed almost instantly when we reached our room. However, we saw a lot of Rome in one day, and got very familiar with the metro system. The Roma Pass was truly a great investment for €30. Another item cecked off my bucket list!
