Managed to get ourselves and our luggage down the steep steps of our apartment safely. Going down was certainly a lot easier than going up, but still a bit of a challenge. I am sure our luggage took a mjor beating! Took the Interno Positano bus up to the SITA fermatta where we caught the bus to Sorrento. It was a nice scenic drive on the Amalfi. From Sorrento we took the train to Napoli Centrale, approximately 50 minutes away. Because the bus & trains are typically late, we had 30 minutes to catch our train to Rome. We took the Italo 'Ferrari' train to Roma. The train is relatively new and very luxurious. Italo has very nice and quiet waiting areas for passengers, as well as charging stations for ones gadgets. They offer wifi on board, but you need an Italian mobile number to register. Unfortunately, it was not working due to technical difficulties. Arrived at the Tiburtina station in Rome, and had to take the metro to Tlermini to pick up our Roma Pass. The hotel is close enough to the station, which we attempted to walk to, but gave up as I was tired and hungry - no lunch. We ended up taking a taxi, the fare should have cost €5, but ended up paying an additional €5 for 'luggage handling.' Our hotel is the Best Western Hotel Villafranca, we have a small room with a terrace facing the interior, as in no view. Oh well, can't complain as I booked it via Airmiles. The clerk at the reception desk 'Daniele' isn't exactley the warm and friendly type; quite honestly the impression we got is we should be lucky that they allowed us to patronize their hotel. After the long journey with nothing to eat but the pcakage of Crostini at the train, we were in need of sustenance. Out of desperation, we ate at the trattoria located around the corner of our hotel. The waiters think they are being charming by flirting with female customers, but I found it over the top and absolutely disrespectful. One of yhem continued to make kissing sounds each time he walked by our table. We were also overcharged. As payback, I decided to let the Filipino family sitting behind us to beware using Tagalog.
Welcome to Roma!
