Today we were heading to Christchurch with a stop at Kaikoura for a few hours. Kaikoura has a sanctuary of marine life and there are lots of things to do there. I chose to go whale watching. Something I've never done before :)
We got there around lunchtime and headed to the whale watching place where a bus took us to the boats that went out to sea. We saw a huge (18m) Sperm Whale. It was pretty amazing to see a whale in real life. And it was defiantly big. So hard to capture a good photo though. Did manage to get a couple and one where it dove back into the water with its tail up :) Also loads a pod of around 300-400 dolphins out there playing around. They looked like they were having the time of their lives hehe.
With quite a long drive left to Christchurch we left Kaikoura. Got to Christchurch quite late in the evening and went to an italian called Valentinos for dinner. We then took a walk around Christchurch. Really wasn't enough time to see everything but we were gonna be back there so we'd get to see more then :) You wouldn't think that a big earthquake had hit the city not so long a go. There were a few odd buildings where you could tell there had been some damage but the majority seemed ok :).
