Day 16&17 7th - 8th Dec
Sky Dive Day!! - yep really :-)
Franz Josef is well known for its glaziers and a popular ski resort in the winter. I decided to do my sky dive here because i'll be overlooking all the snowy mountains and the views are meant to be the best. When i was being kitted out with my gear my nerves were really high but when i was in the plane they were fine. The views were fantasic and i'm sooo glad i did it. The experience of falling out of a plane at 12,000 was incredable. The free fall was very stange. I was just falling soo fast and went through the clouds which was really wierd. Once the parachute was out it was sooo peaceful and agin the views were amazing. The instuctor twirlled us round and round and it was really cool.
The next day i did a full day Hyke (8hr) over the glazier - yes me, walking!. I enjoyed the views and the fact that i was on a glazier but the whole walking thing is definitely not for me. My whole body ached, my knees killed and i had blisters the size of golf balls. I now know i definitely wont be walking that long ever again, lol. The first part was the worst because we had to climb up and it was really steep. Once i got passed that point it was ok. Out of the 8 hour hyke we stopped for 15 minutes for lunch and that was it. I did mange to slip on the ice, i sort of did a superman across the ice on my hands and knees lol soo embarrasing, i now have a lovely big bruise on my knee :-(
