Back to Tim....
So after the slowest train journey in history (but definitely worth it - amazing scenery) we arrived in Cusco. We spent our first day just wandering round the town, the Plaza de Armas, Plaza San Francisco and the markets. We also visited Koriancha which is a convent built on Inca foundations. In the evening we enjoyed our hostels (Loki) Sunday roast! Personally I thought it was great but I'm not sure Penny was too impressed!!
Cusco is a really pretty city with lots of Western comforts which was nice....
The next morning we went to the Llama Path office (the tour company organising our Inca Trail trek) and made the final arrangements (and coughed up the rest of the dough!). We also discovered we were starting at 3.30am which Penny was also not too impressed about!
We then walked to a number of Inca ruins just outside of Cusco, including Sacsayhuaman, Quenko and Salapunco as well as visiting their Christ Figure which sits on a hill overlooking the town. We walked back into Cusco through the neighbourhood of San Blas and had a great meal at a Cafe called Jack's. Well recommended.
We also walked past a cafe covered with Swindon Town FC stickers. I texted Nick as I thought he would be amused. His reply was "We don't even have them in Swindon!!".
The next day we did some shopping for Inca Trail essentials and gifts, visted the Cathedral and the Inca Museum which were both very interesting. We spent part of the afternoon underneath a Southampton FC scarf in the Crosskeys, Cusco's English pub!!
With one day left to the Inca Trail we thought it best to eat and sleep lots and did little else (apart from getting to watch some footie in the Crosskeys!!). We bumped into our Canadian train friends again in the Plaza de Armas on our way to the Llama Path office once again for our pre-trek meeting and had a early night.
