Hey there. since i last updated it i think i said we were going to Miami, where the weather is warm all year....well we didnt. The amtrak train was over 3 hours late, and by the point we got off we had been on a train for little more than 18 hours. We got off in a place called Jacksonville, which according to the guide book has loads to do, well again, it didnt. We got into town probably just after lunch time, and by that time, the two museums we had wanted to go to, the budweiser brewery tour, and a place called sallys (deals with all the animatronics for all the theme park rides etc) one closed at 1 (sallys), the other (budweiser) was too far out of town to get to in the time we had to get there, if that makes sense. Anyway, we decided it was warm so we didnt really care. We walked over to the sports stadiums, one called the Alltel Superbowl stadium in which the Jacksonville Jaguars play, the other stadium being a baseball one for a small time league. The Alltell one was collosal, absolutely massive. so anyway, by this time...i say anyway a lot dont i!!..... it was pretty warm and we hadnt had a drink since the train, so we went back to the CBD and got one in a place called the Landing. moments after fininshing our drink, we realised that we had seen eveything this town had to offer and there was nothing else to do. Strange, as its the second largest city in the US, but has absolutely sod all to do!! so we got a BK and went back the the station, heading back up towards DC.
suprise suprise, the train was late again. got into DC about 2 pm,, and decided that we needed another nights sleep in a horizontal position. so we dropped our stuff off and went to see what there was to see in DC. Ended up in this massive museum of science and history. Not the history of the states and the independance stuff, but the stuff about dinosaurs, middle africa, some scary ass spiders and bugs (which ford loved) and some other randoms. but was huge, so we ended up not seeing everything as it was kick out time. but i reckon if we pass through DC again we will go back. we then went for a walk to the big falic (spelt right) symbol aka washington memorial which was kinda cool as the sun was setting so it was good to see both at one end the memorial and the other the capitol building. anyway, to cut a long story short, we went back to the hostel and grabbed something to eat. some chunky soup i believe, then headed out for a couple beers.
Next day....Disaster, we sorta. we went downtown again, but decided to go over to this out of city mall on the tube. went to a place called best buy, and me being the idiot i am tried to put my cameras memory card into a kodak station, but forgot to do it with the adapter, so it got stuck! the woman there thought it would be good to poke it with a giant 15 inch screw driver, which just ended up poking it, but wouldnt let me help as it made her feel important..i dunno, but after much tooing and frowing, we got it out, but because of the ladies antics the card was damaged, so i lost probably about 300+ photos....gutted, and to top it all off had to buy another card so i can use my camera again. so i write to you now in the hostel we stayed in last night waiting for the train at 10, kinda annoyed with the woman at best buy, but kinda realising my stupidity! oh well, we live and learn. Peace out
