Our first day in Lençòis.....lurve.
The hostel we are staying in continued to impress us at breakfast which was a self serve buffet of rolls, ham, cheese, cakes, Brazilian doughnuts, mini crapes with banana and melted chocolate, soy bean things and fruit....as you can imagine we scoffed it down.....sooooo good!
After all this food we chilled on our balcony in the hammock and pondered what to do with our day as the tour was cancelled. So we decided to hike to the natural hole and waterfall slide.
This time we asked for directions and took a leisurely if not sweaty walk to Ribeirão do Meio...it was amazing, the water was just the right temperature and the surrounding rocks were flat enough to sunbath on. Mark played on the rocks and got bitten by the little fishes..ha...on his way down from the waterslide...and he did all this in his pants, I told him to wear trunks but I think he secretly likes parading around in his briefs all day!
We met a few brazilians, one called Lucas who helped us with the sites and recommended food. We learned that Carne is meat, frango is chicken and the word for fish which we can't remember!
Once the locals starting fishing and the water became polluted with pasta, bread, Mark's pee and fish guts (one girl was squeezing the poor fishes until there guts and eyes popped out....sadistic much?) we decided to head back with our red backs and burnt shoulders.
We have reached our first real hurdle, We have R200 in cash and think HSBC have blocked Mark's card probably due to us trying several times to book flights to Belem. After several visits to the banco de brazil we managed to get cash on the credit card, but now Mark can't remember his internet banking id...whoops! So I'm guessing the rest if the night will involve us writing down possible numerical combinations ( I knew we should have ate earlier) :(
2 hours later and several 'whatsapp' messages to Mark's dad....we are in...yessss! Now we can get some dinner...yummmm...with the help from the Brazilian guy earlier we at least have an idea of what we are ordering, instead of just looking at the pictures and pointing!!! Mark keeps using pretend portuguese words to diss me the latest is Móumbâsso (this is how he chooses to spell it)...it's a good job he isn't annoying!
Just got back from dinner we had Carne do sol, which is dried meat, with rice, beans and some sort of flour paste it was delisioso (Mark isn't the only one that can make up words).
Being the pigs that we are, we decided to sample the market food on the way back to the hostel, an arajau, I liked it but Mark didn't, it was some African influence shrimp bean salad in fried bread. On the way back to the hostel we bumped into our guide. The tours back on tomorrow :) game on!
We are now back in the hammock with a beer and winding down before bed!
