The flight down to Surat Thani was only an hour and thank god I slept through all of it so it wet even faster! We arrived at the airport, you would have thought we were the only plane to arrive for days, so excited they had our bags going around the carousel before we had even departed the plane! Everything was really straight forward, getting the bus to the ferry and the ferry to Koh Samui.
I sat
Next to a Koh Samui local on the bus, she said that they have had bad weather ever since August this year and it should now be low winds and no rain or cloud coverage, but it's extremely windy and cloudy! Her friend messages her and said that after 1pm they were stopping the ferries because of high winds and tide. Great!!
We got to the port and the waves were enormous. Crashing over the huge rocks onto the cars and waiting area, the ferry looked as though it was going to topple upside down, you could see the very bottom of the boat (the bit your NOT SUPPOSED TO SEE!!) there was a ferry there that was going to Koh phangan in the dock that or boat was coming to. The bridge that gets attached to the boat to let vehicles and people on was being shaken all directions, there were so many men guiding the vehicles onto the boat, they were using hand signals to control the cars and lorries moving onto the boat, watching the waves at all time.
But... Because the floor was wet from the waves, a lorry went speeding onto the boat over the ramp, as he did a jug wave came up and rocked the boat loads that the lorry slid into the wall, at a speed. Crushing one of the men up against the wall, when the boat came back down and the lorry lid bak the guy just dropped to the floor and didn't move, they had the ambulance there and tonnes of people trying to keep him straight, he got stretchered off the boat on a spinal board, he was up onions and really not looking good! Safe to say I was ECSTATIC to be getting on this boat... Not! They made a human wall either side of us and they all took it in turns to grab our arms as we walked onto the boat, which was s*** scary!! I got on the boat and heard a huge scream from a girl, looked behind me in panic, scoff had only got his flipflop stuck and tripped nearly falling through the gap of the bridge and the boat!! It could have only been him, right?!
The boat seemed like forever, coming into koh samui looked beautiful, the water was so clear and the sand was so white!! And it was all so calm we didn't have to be escorted off the boat, it was so much better! Booked a minibus taxi to the hotel because it was cheaper doing it that way, the island is so developed with their roads and signage, they seem to drive way more sensible and westernised I suppose you could say. They have everything you could possibly need on here for such a tiny island, it's weird seeing TESCO express here mind. And we have seen more ATMs here in the space of ten minutes than we did the whole time we were in India!
The hotel is nice, *Nantra chaweng* right in the middle of everything with tonnes of bars and restaurants everywhere. We went to the beach for a walk around, not sure I'm liking this cloud coverage, there's way too many clouds for my liking!
Christmas Eve we hired a moped and went around the whole island, we stopped off at some beaches and checked out the prices of the tiger sanctuary. On Lamai beach we had a full body thai massage, 250 bahts for 1 hour and it was the best massage if ever had! They were pulling us in all directions, my back clicked so many times and the tension that was released was awesome! Scott just had a grin on his face the whole time, his masseuse had her work cut out because his legs are like rock and his back has so many knots! (It's because he's invincible and doesn't need to stretch when he plays football or rest when he's injured) haha. Obviously not...
He felt like jelly afterwards so she must have done a good job! Definitely going to be needing one of those again very soon!
We stopped off at Hin Tai waterfall, which was really nice! We fed the catfish and had a short walk up the waterfall but flip flops weren't the best idea so a trek is on the cards for another day!!
Fair play to Scott he done a good job of keeping the bike balanced with the both of us on it, he did pull off a bit quick once and we went straight into the curb opposite and he revved and it went straight into some local's moped (thankfully not knocking it over) haha! But apart from those two little mishaps it was pretty good!
It tried to rain today, but it didn't come to much thank god, it's coming though because the clouds are pretty darn black which is really annoying, think it's from the typhoon and flooding in Malaysia, it's all passing through to us! Which I think is very inconsiderate of Mother Nature, we need to too our tans up!
Even though it's been mostly cloudy, we are really liking Koh Samui so far.
It is a little more expensive than the main land of Thailand so we have been told but these people obviously haven't been to India who think this place is cheap, everything is half the price over there, that's why we are gasping at the prices of beer! (£2 for a pint or a small Steiner) haha still, it's not that bad compared to home!
