Dunedin for the day - Tourists
Breakfast at McDonalds $23NZ for all of us what a bargain and according the girls the BEST BACON EVER!
We then move onto Cadbury Chocolate Factory for our 90 minute tour. 9.45am Did we have a booking "NO" sorry didnt realise we needed to and the next 2 tours are fully booked 11.30am would be the next tour available. We must have looked like we needed compassion next thing we know the tour guide says it looks like one of the pre booked groups for 10 may not show up well fit you it! Another compassioniate person here in NZ.
The tour was fantastic and all the free samples (which were actually full size bars Pinky Bar, Peppy Chew, Caramel Chew and Cholocate Fish!!)
With our bellies full of chocolate we were ready to take on the Worlds Steepest Road... or so we thought
So we drove it!!! and then called into the shop. Postcards purchased and posted back to Aus. What was next!
Otago Penninsula - The most beautiful drive right along the waterfront all the way to the point at the Albatross Centre unfortunately the cafe was closed but the helpful staff directed us to another tour operator who had their Kitchen Open. Apparently not much operates through this area during the Winter months.... With our tummy's full again ( im beginning to feel a theme going on here) we packing back into the Rav and headed back to Dunedin to meet with Doigs at the Airport.
Doig family collected it was time for the 3 1/2 drive to Queenstown. A Beautiful Drive with great roads. The country side reminded us of the drive from Orbost through to Swifts Creek. Very similar countryside driving along bubbling brooks, the only difference is we started to see snow capped mountains.... actually hill sides at 100m above sea level. With the temperature dropping to 4 on the car thermometer we knew it was getting cold.
Nothing really prepares you for the area. Queenstown is beautiful but also the shopping area is very commercial. We look forward to picking up our hire gear and hitting the slopes Sunday when the weather forcast is for fresh snow through to Wednesday.
Til tomorrow - The Tiffins
