It was up and going from our lovely and warm lodge to head into the town of Fox Glacier for our trek.
It would be fair to say the girls were not happy when we arrived to check in with our guide and they saw the directions / instructions for the trek. 4 hours and moderate fitness required and then were told that they would have to walk for an hour up steep hills to get to the glacier, but never the less they reluctantly joined in. This activity is for you not us was there call of the day!
We were kitted up with strong walking boots, woolen socks, waterproof jackets and crampons (spikes for our boots) and then jumped onto the bus to head to the face of the glacier.
WOW we had no idea how large this was 13kms from the main divide to the terminal face (the front of the face) and up to 350m deep.
I was hard work, im not going to lie. I was b*****ed before we even hit the glacier but it was worth it. From the sink holes with beautiful green waters where glaciers had once been to the massive cravasses and towering seracs with their blue colours were unbelievable.
I did magage to take some video footage of the walk into the heart of the glacier but the battery went flat. Thankfully a lovely UK family took some pictures of us and will email them through.
When we finished we were all b*****ed and my feet killed but it was well and truely worth the pain.
