Our trip is almost over but we still have a couple of sights to see.
We pack up and leave Wanaka to complete our journey from the West Coast to the East Coast.
Driving is slow as visibility is no more than 100 m with sub zero temperatures (gauged by our in car thermometer).
After a short stop for coffee, hot chocolate and toilets at Omarama we continued to our planned destination or Moreaki (we had to be there for low tide, or that was what the guide books said).
The Moreaki Boulders are huge spherical stones that are scattered over the sandy beachs, but they are not like ordinary round boulders that have been shpaed by rivers and pounding seas. Aparently they were created by a process of similar to the formation of ocean pearls, where layers of material cover a central nucleous or core. The boulders started from fossil shell and lime minerals in the sea accumulated on the core over time.
The kids think they look like the giants eggs that crack open in Journey 2 and ive got say they actually do.
Scattered along the beach are boulders of varying size and some are over 2m high. The ones that you can see have broken open have the most amazing colours inside very similar to a thunder egg.
The rains started to fall heavier and it was too cold to stay so we climbed back into the car for our final leg today back to Dunedin.
