We just can't believe the weather here. During days it's been not bad, bit cool in the breeze and bit cloudy but some sun too. BUT in the mornings and especially the evenings the fog rolls in and it's absolutely freezing. The first evening we tried to tough it out but we were chilled to the bone by the time we got back to the hotel after dinner. Also we have an evening tour of Alcatraz booked for Friday and have been told to wrap up as it's very cold out in the bay at night, so yesterday we all bought cheap fleeces and beanie hats. It's really amusing how many shops and market stalls are selling fleece, sweatshirts and hats, they are all doing a roaring trade with us stupid tourists who underestimated the cold. Today was bizarre , we went an hour by ferry to Vallejo to a theme park and to swim with Dolphins,(see Phoebes blog). When we left San Fran it was cool and foggy, at Vallejo it was beautifully warm and sunny, in fact I got rather sunburned on my arms and neck whilst waiting for the adrenaline junkies on the roller coasters. Then as soon as we got off the ferry back in San Fran, the fog had rolled in, the wind was up and we immediately had to put on all our layers and hats, ( see the attached photo). To quote Mark Twain " the coldest winter I ever had was a summer in San Francisco". Anyway despite the crazy weather, as you'll see from Phoebes blog we had the most wonderful day. We have yet to really see. Golden Gate Bridge as it's so foggy but we are hoping tomorrow will be better.
