Hello chaps!
Sorry I havent written for a while. Well, I was supposed to leave Cairns last Friday but was having so much fun I decided to stay until Monday. Just couldnt drag myself away from all the cool people I had met so wanted to spend a bit more time with them. All we did was chill by the pool in the hostel and get drunk which was good for a few extra days but was ready to leave on Monday.
Monday am - I boarded the Oz Experience bus in Cairns and felt like proper travelling began. Met loads of cool people on the bus, we all had to stand up and say who we were and where we were from so we bonded straight away! Had a really funny tour guide called 'Guido' who was really helpful and friendly. We first went to the AJ Hackett Bungy Site in Cairns so people could do bungy jumps - I was a spectator, there was no way I was doing crazy stuff like that! Apparently your eyes feel like they are popping out of your head when you do it - definately not for me! Then went off to Lake Eachem a freshwater lake where we saw turtles and I had a lovely swim, the water was beautiful. Then off to Mirra Mirra waterfalls (BEAUTIFUL!) where part of Peter Andre Mystrerious Girl was filmed and also the timotea (I cant remember how to spell it!) advert. Then we went to grab some lunch - I am addicted to Chicken and Avacado sandwiches! Then off to a Croc farm - when we got there they threw a baby croc on the bus, we all screamed! But luckily they had taped the mouth up! Then we were shown round the farm and met all the crocodiles as they fed them chickens (it smelt disgusting). Saw a 70 year old 1.8 ton croc called Colin and one of the men who worked on the farm sat on his back! Also met and stroked loads of Kangeroos which was really good, they were so sweet. Then they offered us to try some Crocodile Meat they had cooked. Someone said it was supposed to taste like Chicken so I thought I would try it.......... eurgggghhhhh! It was disgusting, on thinking of the taste it has made me feel sick! Also one of the girls I made friends with Mary let a snake bite her, how crazy is she!!
We ended up in Mission Beach at about 6.pm after a busy day and just had time to get changed and have a shower before heading out to dinner and drinks. The next day we headed off to travel to Magnetic Island just off the coast from Townsville, and can you believe it, it was cloudy and then started to rain! You dont expect rain in Australia. So bit of a rough ferry journey across to the island! But Island was absolutely stunning, it is definately one of the best places I have been to and the best hostel I have stayed in so far. We slept in A Frame huts a stones throw from the beach. Stayed there for 3 nights and was entertained by 3 crazy danish girls and Mary who I shared the hut with. Firstly a guy in our room bought a girl back and had sex with her which the girls heard and saw (luckily I am a deep sleeper!). Then we had ladies night and blind date in the hostel bar which was fun. We all went on a walk at the top half of the island up some rocky hills (must have walked 8km and I was bloody knackered) saw some really amazing views though. Then on the last 2 days the sun came out which was brilliant so did some sunbathing and managed to sustain the worst burns I think I have ever had. So so burnt on my back and legs, will I never learn to keep reapplying suncream and not fall asleep in the midday sun! Doh!
Left Magnetic Island yesterday and reached Airlie Beach where you can head off to do a sailing trip round 72 islands called the Whitsundays. Im still waiting to book my trip so will let you know how it goes. Arrived at the hostel yesterday to be greeted by about 10 irish guys trying to get me to do a beer bong! I was like NOOOOO! Me and the girls went out last night and had a brill night in a club called Mama Africa's, I was dancing non stop from about 11.pm to 3.00am as you can imagine with some crazy canadian boys which was cool. The danish girls said I am an energizer bunny - I love my dancing tho! Feel pretty shattered today so just waiting in travel agent to book my sailing trip. Met up with loads of people I met in Cairns too which has been great. Everyone is working to similar time frames and travelling down the same route so you constantly re meet people. Think Im gonna have a quiet one tonight tho!
Anyway better go as they have called my name to book trip.
Tell me your news!!
Take care xxxxx
