The Wandering Rupa
On yet another bus. Poor Marike - who has stayed in Sydney - had to get up at 6.00am to help carry my backpack after my tumble down a mountain. My foot is huge and it's gone black and I'm not a happy bunny about it. My poorly foot - and the debacle that led to my injury - has caused much hilarity wherever we've gone. Thankfully Emma and Helen both studied some sort of physical activity course at uni so they're both clued-up on strapping my foot with ice and all that cobblers. I'm just preying that the swelling goes down enough for me to put a little weight on it as we're off to Mojo Surf Camp and I am NOT missing that!
Today we drove up into the mountains to a place call Barrington Tops and stayed on a compound called The Steps. It's gorgeous here! We're in the smallest dorms I've ever seen and it's boiling in there - just a tiny 6-by-10 wooden shack with 8 bunks stacked one on top of the other. I've resolved to sleep outside tonight!
There's a river running through the compund and two open-air hot-tubs with water straight from the river. We've been for a practice Kayak this afternoon and we're going out at night tonight to Kayak through rapids under a full moon (one of the rapids is olympic standard so I'm a bit nervous!) There's also horse-riding, absieling and mountain-biking but my bloody foot has put the lid on anything like that - oh well, I'll just have to sun-bathe and swim in the fresh-water river that's at my disposal :)
I wasn't sure if the Oz Experience was going to be my cup of tea with all the scheduled activities and things but it's been amazing. I don't feel spoon-fed. I only need to get involved in the activities that I want to and I've had the chance to do things I'd have never even thought of if I was travelling on the Greyhound bus.
Complaints about my foot aside - I'm having a ball!
