The day started with an enormous hill which David saw off in no time at all. Onto the Tekapo-Twizel canal system - where events threatened to derail the MGHTY PUSH. Shock horror - the gates were closed - no access allowed due to high winds. After some careful negotiate Lynn managed to persuade MERIDIAN ENERGY to open the gates and we were soon joined by the fabulous Matt who held (as it were) the keys to the city - and once again the MIGHTY PUSH was back on.
One thing we hadn't considered however was there was a reason the gate was shut - severe weather and high winds. With gales blowing in the wrong direction the support team (Big Al, Eric and Gill) showed their metal - gathering around David they formed a protective shield to keep the wind off (an unusual situation for big Al as we all normally need a protective shield from his wind - however that's another story)...... Torrential rain then ensued to add to the discomfort, however David and the team were not to be deterred.
David's treat for the day was a large steep downhill section - where plans were hatched to break the land speed record with a hand bike (hope Mary - David's mum isn't reading this bit). Mike valiantly tried to keep up with him however failed and Lynn (captain sensible) arrived 5 minutes later with the distinctive aroma of burning brakes in the air.
David finished the day in fine style clocking a gigantic 31 miles! Way to go Dr Dave!
Once again thanks to the catering team - Megan and Al for providing 50 butties to keep the team going!
Finally before we sign off - HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARILIE (Eric and Gills daughter) back home in UK.
