Leg two complete meant only one thing, rest day and what a sport to rest up. The sun shone bright onto the apartment deck from first light and the huge trout, swallows and wild fowl on the water below provided a distraction from the task at hand.
The team went their own way during the day. Sadly, Megan and Alastair spent the day nursing Hamish who has an ear infection and a high temp. The high temp we can't explain, the ear infection however, could be a result of listening to his Dad's stories all day yesterday.... Mike took off on a road trip to Queenstown and Wanaka; Lynn had some work to catch up on and a bit of chillin to do; Nick went for a bike ride; and Dave mooched about looking slightly concerned about the task in hand.
Better late than never we got a detailed guide and maps for the next section, the Otago Rail Trial. It was not the distance or the hills that were weighing heavy on the big man's mind, been there done that. The next 100 miles are off the hardtarmac and onto gravel and some of the pictures in the guide book looked well, rough. Nothing can be done now except eat some scones, chocolate croissants and chill out in the sun, ideal rest and preparation.
Dave spent a good chunk of the day sorting out the I.T. side of TMP, the less exciting bit of this adventure. Mike returned from his tour with stories of Bungee Jumps, Canyon swings , Jet Boating , Human Rocket Rides and coffee shops. He did manage two of the above, and that is not two coffee shops.
David's bike is booked into hospital after the last two legs. Those powerfulguns of his are taking their toll on his equipment. His bike was there all day today but has to go back for some bits that will hopefully power David to Middlemarch at the end of stage 3.
Two down and one to go. Stages that is. All rested up and ready to roll.
