Cam's Great Escapade
Hello there, I'm back in Thailand! Ive been to Bangkok 3 times in the last two months and by the end of my gap year itll be 5 times, its feeling like a 2nd home! well anyway its good to be back, the food's cheap, the people perpetualy cheerful and the cuture's oozing.
I'm in Chang Mai at the moment which is the 'cultural center' or Thailand; the main town is not quite Ubud or Hoi An but it all made sense when we got up into the mountains. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, ive heard some things about the mountain tribes being like human zoos with little children dancing for your pennies. In the end it turned out to be amazing and a highlight of my gap year, i only wish i could have stayed longer. The tribe we stayed with was absoloutly lovely and it certainly didnt feel like a tourist trap after the 4 hour hike through the forest. The hiking was brilliant, im not a great lover of physical exercise but we got some brilliant veiws of the misty mountains and swam in waterfalls along the way. I got to do another elephant trek this time down a river which was lovely and the little baby elephants running alongside. We got to the village and had a meal which was delicious and then all the little children started dancing for us and singing songs round a big fire. It was a two way deal though because afterwards they got us all to dance and sing songs, they were particularly entertained by 'im a little teapot.' We carried on the singing late into the night and sang songs and played the guitar and basicly had a really fun alcohol-free evening.
The next day we did some more treking, i was getting pretty good at it by then if i say so myself. We went for some more waterfall swims and rafted down the river on a bamboo boat. All in all it was brilliant although i woke up this morning feeling a bit like id been beaten up, i was stiff all over, i think ill have to get an oil massage. We are off to Pai tomorrow which is a little hippy mountain village and then to the island of Ko Chang for a last bit of relaxation. Only 11 days till india and then only 17 days till i see Bill!!! Im so excited, its going to be brilliant.
Hope your all good, email me. Lots of love from Camilla xxxxx
