Nadeane & Dean's Trip
Well we began our tour yesterday and it's been very busy! We left the hostel in Lima at 6.30am and travelled for four hours to Paracas, a small little beach suburb a few hundred kms south of Lima. From there, we took a speedboat ride, firstly to the famous 'Candlebra', which is a giant etching on the side of a sand dune which has lasted for hundreds of years and no one knows who put it there. From there, we sped off to the Ballestas islands which is a rocky island, home to thousands of sea lions and 'peruvian boobies' (they are birds!!). From there we were back on the bus for our trip to Huacachina, a town built around a desert oasis, surrounded by huge beautiful sand dunes. We hopped on dune buggies and raced up and down the sand dunes, and stopped at the top of a few to try our hand at sandboarding. After that, we took the buggies to a secluded spot right in the middle of the desert and camped for the night under the stars!! Beautiful!
Today we drove to Nazca, the home of the famous Nazca Lines, the huge drawings carved into the landscape by the ancient Nazcas thousands of years ago. I'm too chicken to go on the plane to see them, but Dean is going tomorrow morning so we'll report back when we get the chance. We are camping for the next few days so may not have contact, but we'll be sure to log back in as soon as we can.
Miss you all...
