Day 17 - by Brett
Initially we were going to start our way home and head back to Howlong today. How long? About five and three quarter hours. But as we were all having so much fun, we made the pact that we would stay one more night, but that we'd have to make the trek home to the 'go in one day, and get up early. Everyone was happy with this, especially young Hannah, otherwise known as the human alarm clock, as I asked her to wake all the boys the next morning. Those that know our boys know that trains are extremely exciting to them, especially James who can tell you the type of train by the sound of its horn. And in NSW they have double decker trains, so you could imagine the excitement levels! It's the same level of excitement Laura gets at Muffin Break. So we decided that we'd catch the train up to the coastal town of Scarborough and grab lunch at the local pub there. Today we had an extra, little miss Sarah Campbell was spending the day with us much to Porter's excitement. After a few changes of outfits we boarded the train and of course had to sit on the top deck. It's a beautiful trip once out of Wollongong with great ocean views. We arrived at Scarborough and walked down to the Hotel. The outdoor seating at the rear goes all the way to the cliff edge over looking the ocean breaking below. The front has stunning mountain range views. The weather was beautiful, and we could have sat there for the rest of the day, alas there was exploring to do. We then headed further north to Coalcliff where we spent time watching the hang gliders, um...gliding around the mountain range. It begs the question, who the heck decided to try that for the first time, "I'm going to strap myself to that kite and take a running jump off that cliff and see what happens". b***** that. We then headed back to the 'Gong, collected the car and popped in to a shopping centre. We wanted to grab the girls a little gift for having us, and as miss Sarah loves her dresses, Lauz thought the idea of letting Sarah pick herself a new dress would be a good idea. This little princess is a fashion aficionado, and is not even at school yet, and her knowledge is clearly more than mine. I offered assistance by way of a little dress that came with a bonus matching head band. The look I received from this knee high diva did not need words. But if she knew ill meaning words I'm sure I would have received one. When poor Logan happened to suggest the same dress and matching head band a minute later I feared for his safety. At one stage her tiny highness had no less than seven dresses in her hands. It was like watching a mini Laura in action (thank goodness we didn't find any hats). Having finally decided on the right dress, we headed towards the checkouts much to the boys (and my) happiness. It was then when little miss catwalk informed that as she had a new dress, she needed new shoes. I nearly fell over, and I think Laura was actually proud. I thought it was only older females that knew this stuff, but apparently not. Apparently it's engrained in to the female psyche, or taught at kindergarten. It was truly an eye opening experience, and just another reason I'm grateful for having boys. Afterwards we caught up with the Sav clan for tea, ate and drank too much and again shot a lot of the proverbial, just like old times.
