Day 15 - by Brett
Woke up to lovely weather in Port Macquarie, had brekky on the balcony looking and listening to the ocean. By the time we packed the car though, the weather was turning ugly as forecast. Made a couple of quick stop offs (another good coffee, three for three!) and we were on the road heading to Wollongong for the next five and a half hours. For the first leg Lauz drove, and the boys played with toys/gadgets and watched a movie, and I got to do some reading (it distracts me from Laura's driving. Porters new fave toy is a Iron Patriot figurine (from the Iron Man 3 movie) that he bought with his pocket money. No matter how many times we correct him, he still calls it Iron Pastry. Not really the fear inducing name the creators were aiming for I'm sure. You could imagine a bad guy exclaiming "On no, here comes Iron Pastry! Grab me some butter and jam!". We stopped for a quick lunch at the friendliest Maccas we've ever been to, and then back on the road again. We swapped the boys seats around a few times which seemed to alleviate the boredom. Even put Laura in the back, as she's a good backseat driver. The weather had deteriorated since leaving Port Mac and was ever changing all day, with a lot of rain. We arrived in Wollongong around 4:30pm. We'd heard that they had received a lot of rain recently (100+mm in the last 3 days) and it was pretty evident that the reports were correct. Fortunately we avoided most of it. Our boys and Mat and Renee's girls were very excited to see each other and didn't want to stop playing in order to go to bed. Renee lived up to her welcoming hospitality and cooked a mean dinner of tacos and ice cream with iced magic, kids thought it was Xmas!!! God help us when we have to leave and drag these kids apart.
