Hey everyone
Today was PD day! PD as in Port d*** on.
We had arranged to have breakfast at around half 8 so we could go to the blue lagoon (a bay nearby) and go on a banana boat. After a very big breakfast (it was a buffet and included with the accommodation) we went to the pool to have a relax, as we were told that because there was some construction work going on at the blue lagoon, we would be 'picked up' from the beach right next to the resort. It turned out that we had to walk to the blue lagoon, but it wasn't far and though Christina was very, very reluctant to go on the banana boat, we just about persuaded her to come along. We got our life-jackets on and the seven of us climbed aboard the banana boat. The boat pulling us started off going slowly, and this gave us a chance to take in the views around us. However, moments later it picked up speed and we had water spray in our eyes and were holding on tight. It was easy enough holding on as we made slight left and right turns, but the boat driver's plan soon became clear when he turned sharply to the left. Next thing we knew, we were flung off the banana and crashed into each other and the sea at the same time. A few apologies later (to people Alex had accidentally 'lightly' knocked with his leg as he shot off the banana), we were climbing back on the banana and were off again.
For the next 10 minutes or so, we had a few minutes of gentle left and right turns, and then one sharp turn which sent us all flying. We were all having fun, but then on the fourth round, as we came rolling off the banana boat into the sea, Christina collided with Robin and had her arm bent a little too far backwards. Alex came to the rescue (it wasn't the first time) and dragged christina to the motorboat (pulling the banana). With a bit of a struggle (huge understatement as Christina found it impossible to climb onto the boat using only one arm), she got into the boat and spent the rest of the time (about 5 minutes) nursing her arm in the boat. One last sharp turn and the banana boat adventure was over for all of us.
Nursing our bruises, we walked back to the resort to spend the rest of day relaxing by the pool, playing in the water and trying to get the sea water out of our ears and noses. At one stage, we decided to try and recreate the Petronas Towers in the pool, and after a few poor attempts, we managed to hold our pose just long enough for someone to take a photo.
Late in the afternoon we went for a walk on the beach and saw hundreds of tiny hermit crabs scurry across the sand and hide in shells and dig into the sand. It was an interesting sight and we had playing on the beach - we could walk really far out and the water would get no deeper than a few centimetres. That evening we went to the restaurant at the resort just down the road, which also had really pretty swimming pool with lights all around it. Unsurprisingly, our food came at different times, but this was pretty extreme and they kept Alex waiting for what seemed like an hour for his pizza (it was just about worth it). For dessert, we had ice cream which came with something called a 'love letter'. This turned out to be a wafer. It's called a love letter because of the chinese tradition of secretly putting a love letter inside the wafer and giving it to your secret love. After some nice ice cream, we went up to the top of the tower at the resort and heard the thunder and saw the lightning from a storm in the distance.
We went back to our own resort, played some card games (only after a bit of magic, naturally) and went off to bed. Xxx
