Hey everyone
Not very much happened today... Wait a minute, I mean:
Today was 'not much happened' day!
That's better.
We got up pretty early (it's been happening far too often) so we could make the most of our last morning in PD. We decided to go to the lighthouse nearby, as apparently it had nice views and was a good walk. We set off in the usual almost unbearable heat (and in our hiking shoes) and headed into the edge of the rainforest just outside the resort. We had probably been walking for about 20 minutes when we saw a monkey on a cable going along above us. Then we saw another. And another. Next thing we knew, there was a group of monkeys walking down the cable over our heads. We took some great photos and a video (in which you can hear shrieks of excitement) of them as they made there way along the cable and occasionally jumped onto nearby trees.
Once they had all walked off into the distance, we continued our trek and about 15 minutes later we arrived at the lighthouse. There were great views of the bays nearby (including Monkey Bay), but it was a shame that we couldn't go inside the lighthouse. After a quick look around the area, we headed back as we needed to check out by midday, plus we were getting too hot.
Back at the resort, we showered, packed our bags and checked out, expecting our minibus ready to take us to Melaka at 12. However, the minibus was on its way from Kuala Lumpur with another group, but was running well behind schedule, so it turned out we wouldn't be leaving until at least 3. So what followed for the next few hours was lots of chatting, eating and playing a prank on half the group (by telling them that it was their fault we had missed the minibus at 11am). Finally, the minibus arrived and we were off to Melaka. 3 hours later and after a few games in a very cramped minibus, we pulled up outside an 'interesting' looking 'guesthouse' in the small town of Melaka. Melaka is historically an important town to Malaysia, but we only had one afternoon there to take in the sights, as we were leaving for Singapore early the next day.
After some snacks made out of flour and water at the guesthouse, we got given our rooms. We did pretty for ourselves as some of the others got not only rooms with no windows (we've had that before) but rooms with no windows and 'incomplete' walls. There were three rooms in a row which had a gap of about a foot from the ceiling - these reminded us of toilet cubicles. On the other hand, our room was surprisingly spacious, had a window, a mosquito net and even a spare bed. The guesthouse was pretty unusual, as many of the rooms were 'half outside', as they had no roof above them or merged with the garden.
We headed to explore Melaka, and got as far as the mall. After changing most of our remaining Malaysian Ringgits into Singapore dollars we decided to go on the hunt for some Bonjela for christina's painful ulcers. After walking the length of an absolutely huge mall, we eventually found a pharmacy. We then decided that rather than seeing the few famous sites of melaka, we would go to the much more famous Secret Recipe. Secret Recipe is a cake shop (and restaurant too but it specialises in cakes) which England needs. The cakes are amazing. It was already quite late and we were pretty tired, so we though we would treat ourselves to some tea and cake. For the next 45 minutes or so, christina, alex and Sophie devoured three big pieces of cake, sharing each between the three of them. Along with some Earl Grey, we had a lovely chat and relax on a couple of sofas.
At 8 it was time to meet for dinner, and as Lynn (our tour guide) had chosen the restaraunt, it was annoyingly expensive as we expected it to be. On the plus side, we were full of cake (which was impressively inexpensive) so all we ate were a couple of salads and a drink. After the meal, we went back to the guesthouse and straight to bed as although it was our final night as a group, we had to get up really early to go to Singapore... Xxx
PS yes we realise that there is an awful lot of writing considering that apparently 'not much happened'.
