Hey everyone
We woke up pretty early as we wanted to go up the Petronas Towers today, and everyone had said you have to get there early to get a ticket. So at about 8am we headed over to the towers and found the queue. It wasn't too bad, but we did queue for an hour or so before we were allocated our time slot for when we could actually go up to the sky bridge (the bridge about 44 floors up connecting the two towers).
Before taking the lift up, we watched a video about the history of the towers, played with some toys vaguely related to the towers, then watched a 3D movie about the company Petronas Oil... which really wasn't that fun at all. Next thing we knew, we were taken into a big lift with A LOT of floor buttons in it. We were all impressed that a woman in the lift gave a little talk about the towers that timed exactly with the length of the lift journey (41 seconds). She must have a fun job...
The sky bridge was amazing. We had a great view of the massive park next to the towers and the surrounding district of the city. We took lots of photos and 10 minutes later we were back in the lift and enjoyed another talk, exactly 41 seconds long and ending just as the doors opened. It was about midday by now, and we decided to go explore the big park next to the towers. It's a really pretty park (Christina liked it very much), with a huge play area, massive fountains, sculptures, lots of shaded paths and a big paddling area with a waterfall. We found a nice spot to sit down and enjoyed the pizza that we had taken home from the restaurant last night (very very good pizza).
We headed back to the hotel after enjoying a lovely few hours in the (very hot) park, and had an afternoon nap. A few hours later, we got dressed up and headed back over to the Sky Bar - as you may have guessed, around the Petronas Towers was our favourite area of town. We were met by the sight of a man doing lengths in the swimming pool which is in the middle of the room - the pool looks really cool when it's lit up at night, but doesn't give the room the same effect during the day. But we got a nice poolside spot to sit, which was also next to the huge windows, and we had a great view out over the city. We ordered a cocktail each - christina had a Lychee Rose, the best cocktail she has had in her whole life - and made them last as long as possible. Fortunately we made them last just about long enough so that we could watch the amazing sunset over the city.
After paying the bill (they put on so much extra service charge and tax here...) we went over to the food court underneath the towers and saved some money - christina got a McDonalds (tut tut) and Alex got carbonara (not exactly local cuisine either). After our expensive cocktails followed by our cheap meal, we went back to the park outside (yes, we liked it that much) and had a lovely night-time walk.
That was pretty much it for the day, as we went back to the hotel and to bed, looking forward to our final morning in Kuala Lumpur. Xxx
