As the last blog didnt quite fill you in entirely on our adventure (ran out of time) we'd tought we'd give you an update.
After breakfast we went on a mission to find a shiny temple and were almost scammed by an 'english teacher' who tried to get us to visit a giant buddha which coincidently was only open for the next hour or so and his friend was going to take us there in his tuk tuk for 30baht each! - but we were having none of it! on the plus side we did get a free map out of it.
We saw the first attractive male yesterday morning which is a rarity admist the y-front wearing neighbours and general old (AND NAKED!) men who depict our view from our room!
Char was convinced that she actually had seen the fat greasy thai man who said he'd seen her before - until he said 'in my dreams' - GROSS!
Continuing on the topic of creepy men we are constantly pestered for tuk tuks to 'ping pong' shows everywhere we go. Not entirely sure what a ping pong show entails but were avoiding it.
Khao san road is hectic in the evening - so many bars and stalls littering the place - even baby elephants wandering the streets. but we've managed to find a quiet corner with a starbucks - typical! Theres also a Macdos but we've resisted temptation so far eating at the local side restaurants where veggies (Jen + Char) have yet to try a proper thai meal; having pasta and sauce for the past few days. However i (katy) had noodles with chicken and egg yesterday evening which were very nice and cheap! According to our travel books we've gone for the classic backpacker meals including fresh fruit smoothies and pancakes... mmm Other than that we've eaten at the numerous 7/11s on every corner which sell a variety of crisps (mostly squid and sushi flavoured - ew!) Char was very unimpressed at the variety of things they sell - only tiny bottles of shampoo etc. shes missing her tescos!
We found a swimming pool near us which was hard to tear our eyes away as it is so unbelievably hot!!! we keep going back to our room after a few hours of being outside just to cool down in the air con! This is where char immediately falls asleep in a matter of minutes - we've managed to fall asleep 5 times in the past 2 days so havent gotten over jet lag yet!
We're moving on from Bangkok today! We're getting picked up at 6 this evening from our guest house by an overnight V.I.P bus! (FOR 11 HOURS!!) to Surat Thani then a ferry to Ko Samui where we shall meet skin and nath who are already there. We got our tickets from a proper travel agency recommended by the police so hopefully our bus will actually turn up! fingers crossed! We got a tuktuk for the first time to this agency which was an experience in itself! 60 baht there and back with 3 of us squeezed in the back.
We're looking forward to getting out of muggy bangkok and into the sunshine and sand of ko samui - let the tanning begin!! xxxx
