Well I forgot my notebook again so gunna have to try and do it from memoryy :D
Urmmm...well we had one more night in Bangkok after I wrote the last blog, which me and tet spent getting clay-raped and extremely wet on the way to say bye to skin and nath! The new year thing was extended due to all the rioting and stuff in Bangkok but most westerners got fed up (we certainly did!) and so it was pretty much just insane Thai people out and about covering each other and us in clay and ice cold water! After our fairwell to Skin & Nath who have now returned to wonderful woking we packed up all our stuff (i still despise packing grr) and slept for a couple of hours before our 7:30 bus pickup for Cambodiaaaa
The first bus wasn't tooo bad other than the fact that our seats jumped up and down at the slighest movement (tet whipped out a pencil and piece of paper to see just how much we were bumping up and down..it was a lot!) and too make it worse mine and tets chairs squeaked like crazy so ionstead of sleeping we had a nice singalong to tets ipod :D Just before the border the strange man who called him self our 'bus leader' picked up a micrphone and started preaching to us about his country and the differences between asia and western countries..he went onnn and ooon and oooon and got very worked up when retelling a story about a man trying to rent a car or something silly
Once we arrived at the border, which was a very hot and sweaty affair, we got on a public bus from the border to Siem Riep, the bus wasn't all that bad apart from teh fact that the tyre exploded and we all had to clamber off jumping over everyones luggage that lined the floor of the bus to stand and wait while they fixed it!
We arrived in Siem Riep in the evening and booked our tour to go and visit Angkor Wat and surrounding temples..char was nott happy we had to be up at 6:30 again..lucky for her we allll ended up oversleeping and only woke up when a poor little big-eyed cambodian man knocked on our door and nervously asked said "i think its tme you see temple now" haha smooooth
Because the temples are so big and spread out you hire a tuk tuk (in cambo its a little cart thign with two seats facing each other pulled along on a motorbike..can get a little slow at times and struggles with anything vaguely uphill!) to drive you round for the day, the first temple Angkor Wat was hauuugee..so big andy managed to get lost and we all had to wait for him in the tuk tuks! When we first arrived we were immediately surrounded by crazy little cambo girls selling bracelets and water and postcards etc..they all asked our names and then asked us to come back after we'd been to the temple..so when we returned we were again surrounded by them. I got seriously victimised by one evil little girl who screamed at me 'Jennnn you a liaaar jenn, you said u buy my braceltes JEENNNN you a horrible woman!' over and over...i can quite honestly say ive never been so afraid of a 14 year old! The rest of the kids were super cuteee though and they all came and talked to us while we waited for andy to return..they even gave us free bracelets and drew us flowers and wrote us letters..i wanted to take them homee! The other temples were coool too, one fo them was where Tomb Raider was filmed..this excited the guys greatly as they wandered round wondering when Angelina Jolie would appear behind one of the many giant trees poking out the temples
After a few days in Siemp Riep we moved to the capital..not even gunna attempt to spell it..it began with a P thatll do...and stayed in a rat and cockraoch infested hell hole..to put it nicely! Mine and tets room flooded out of the bathroom..into the bedroom and then seeped under the walls intp the corridor..soaking all of our clothes! grrr! and we all had rat poo droppings everywhere and I found a cockroach on my bed which tet destroyed and placed outside the guys bedroom door..only for it to disappear in the night..those things are invincible im telling you!
The main activity in the area was to go visit The Killing Fields and Tuel Sleng genocide mueseum..it wasn't a particulary cheery event! Was interesting thoug..we had no idea there'd been such a big genocidey thing..a quarter of the population were killed and buried in these fields its horrible! The mueseum was actually the main place where they tortured people it was pretty grimy..it used to be a school and they turned classrooms into rows and rows of tiny cells which were all bloodstained and gross, at the killing fields you could see clothes and bones sticking out the ground and there was a giant glass case full of thousands of skulls that theyd dug up..:(
We spent the rest of our time in Cambo visiting the shopping centre, going to a strange club called Heart of Darkness which looked like someones house with a bar and dancefloor thrown in..lovely decor tho..i wanted to take the lampshades home :D And gonig to a restaurant called Happy Herb Pizza..and failing both times to actually get a happy herb pizza!
Happy to leave the grimy city (which we were convinced would make the top dirtiest cities but after tets thorough research we found out it doesnt even make the list!) we booked a bus to Ho Chi Min (Saigon..they seem to call it both) in Vietnam
Our bus was booked for 8am the morning after our visit to Heart of Darkness..us girls decided to reutrn home around 2 and pack but the boys thought it was a good idea to roll in at 6:30, luckily they have less to pack than us so we were all on timee :D The bus was actually pretty good..the air con was the beset so far..so good we had to put our hoodys on! After struggling to sleep in our bouiler of a room it was a relief to be nice and cool and we all kidna wished it was a longer bus ride just so we could have a nice nap! We arrived Vietnam around 2 and headed for lunch where me and char got very excited by the amount of veggie options :D we've literally only eaten in two places since arriving..and theyre next door to eachother :D
The guys decided to head to the War Mueseum but knowing we'd get insanely bored and most likely suicidal we headed out to the shops where i succesfully bought a new camera (cambo scum robbed it) and char..not so succesfully..vomited allll over the streets of vietnam :P When we returned the guys had been too late for the museum and planned to go the next day so we decided to head to a nearby Waterpark with expectations of going down some nice waterslides and then whacking out the tanning oil and doing a nice bit of sunbatheing..this was most definately not the case.
We arrived at the place and paid the entry fee which was just over a pound only to find out you had to pay for everything individually once inside! it was a very nice place but we later found out we were in the theme park section and we could of just gone straight into the water park..oops
Our first ride was the haunted house which was the most TERRIFYING experience of travelling so far! We went in thinking it would be a bit of a joke only to find out it was pitch black to the point w couldnt see a thing in front of us and tet who was leading ahd no idea where we were heading! Things popped out and heads fell down from the ceiling and then we got hands grabbing at out legs and then just as we thought it was over this insane looking man dressed in a mask and wig was chasing after us grabbing at me (who was at the back!) so we all just ran screaming stupidly loudely out the exit and had to stand for a few minutes while we stoped shaking and hyperventilating! It was horrible! Andy thinks we were just being girls but it really was terrifying!
We went on a few more rides before deciding to get lunch..wellll that was a silly idea as no one in the park spoke english (we were literally the only non-vietnamese people there!) and all the menus were in vietnamese! We finally managed to get ourselves a lovely bowl of plain wite rice and abit of salad after we wrote down 'Vegetarian..No Meat' on a piece of paper for the only woman in the entire place to understand a few words of english
Then we headed to the water park section so see everyone inside wearing full on clothing and there we wer with our bikinis looking for a tan! We found a quiet area and hid our towels, me and char decided to keep our tops on to try and blend in but tet (who in fairness has no hope of blending anyway with that bright blonde bleached hair!) was unfortuantely wearing a dress and so joined the other few white people we'd spotted in wearing a bikini
We got seriously stared at ..it felt like we were in a zoo or something..very discomforting! The first ride we went on was also a disastor as you shoot sooo fast down it you are blinded with water and cant breath and then end up in a pool not being able to see the crowd of vietnamese people watching you only to notice you have the worsttt wedgie imaginable! char couldnt walk for a few minutes and said she felt like shed been ripped in half by her bikini bottoms!
We then opted for the calmer looking water rapids and floated in nice little rubber rings for a bit until i got kidnapped by a small vietnamese boy and his family who dragged me round and round and round the rapids so i lost char and tet and sat in my ring nervously laughign as they all pointed and said stuff i couldnt understand!
Other than this traumatic day out we havnt done that muc..weathers been a bit cloudy and it rained today..we have loved our rooms though as we have loads of movie channels and the disney channeellll!! :D Watched quite a few films now mwahaha :D We're living in a kind of town house place which is literally these peoples home and they live in a strange kind of half level between the kitchen and upstairs..its very odd..the womans really nice but deosnt understand much english so she just laughs and hugs us! They have theee cutest dog ever thoughhh shes like a little ball of white fluff!
In 5 hours we're heading to the train station to embark on our epic 29 hour train journey to the capital Hanoi..where we are desperately hoping to find a beach and some sun as we are not impressed with our fading tans!
Lots of loveeeeeeee
