What do Monet and Federer have in common? They both are pretty amazing to see up close in Paris!
On Tuesday we took a long walk with our friend Campari as she showed us some highlights in the St. Germain and Tuileries quarters of the city. We wound up at the d'Orsay Museum which is housed in an old railway station that was built back in the early 1900s. Its known to have the world's largest collection of impressionist work so we got a chance to see some very familiar and amazing paintings and sculptures. Like any museum, I feel like we could have spent hours longer roaming the many floors, but after awhile you reach museum overload. I included some of my favorite paintings from Degas and his friends in the photo album. The museum itself, however, was a masterpiece. The vaulted ceilings, grand windows and massive arches were almost a distraction from the art all around.
Exhausted after a long day of walking, and on a tip from our friends, we brought home some fantastic Greek take out (its ok to take a break from french food) and settled in for what we hoped would be an early night.
Andrew thought otherwise. Note to self - an infant that sleeps in a stroller all day while you're out and about doesn't feel the need to sleep once he is home and well rested. Add to that the jet lag of 9 hours. It was a long night but I think mom and dad learned a lesson.
Mark was able to get us 2 tickets to the 2nd Round of French Open Tennis on Wednesday. I got to see the hunky Roger Federer play a few games on the big court before he defeated Spain's Marcel Granollers in 3 sets. Mark's highlight was seeing Martina Hingis play doubles after a 15 year haitus from the professional tennis scene. It was a beautiful day to walk around the grounds and see a lot of great tennis.
I'm looking forward to my cooking class tomorrow. Such a thoughtful Mother's Day gift from Mark and Andrew.
