It's Saturday of a three-day weekend! In France, Whit Monday is a public holiday recognizing the day after Pentecost. We were craving a picnic to make the most of the sunny, warm day so Mark did a little research and found the Jardin Catherine Laboure. What a gem! Nestled right next door in the 6th Arrondissment, this somewhat hidden park seems to be a haven for locals who are looking to escape the bustling city scene. Although the park was predominantly made up of young families sprawled across the vast lawn, we couldn't help but notice the "old timers" occupying the benches quietly and perhaps remembering a place where they used to bring their children.
What I liked most, besides the picnic lunch that we picked up at La Grande Epicerie de Paris (an artesian food lover paradise that puts Whole Foods to shame), was the fact that this park was so simple. No play structure, no sandbox, no fountains, but somehow the dozens of children found things to do that called on their creativity and communication with very little parental involvement. A place where grown-ups and children catch up with their own people. Perhaps this happens at home, but I've not slowed down enough to notice.
Andrew decided today was the day he'd begin rolling over from back to front. His chuckling has also become more frequent, even at 3am as he struggles to adjust to this new time zone. At least he's still content sleeping in the stroller as we leisurely enjoy our meals at the local cafes.
