Night Location: Capri, Italy
Another magnificent blue skied day this morning which was great as we had planned to take a day trip across to the Amalfi Coast. We boarded the 10:00am ferry and after arriving in the beautiful seaside town of Amalfi and booking a table for lunch at da Gemma, we bought bus tickets (with the help of a 'tourist assistant') for the short trip up to Ravello.
Ravello was as we remembered, with its cobbled lanes, large pots overflowing with geraniums and beautiful ceramic shops. Gemma and Mum visited an art gallery and after much deliberation, each bought stunning original water colour paintings of the Villa Cimbrone gardens. Gemma's is of the 'Avenue of Immensity' and Mum's is of the 'Terrace of Infinity.'
For morning tea we headed up to Villa Maria, where we had spent our very first lunch as a family on the 2011 trip. The delicious lemon dessert was ordered by all of us which we enjoyed while looking over the escarpment.
From here, Mum, Gemma and Amber returned to the Villa Cimbrone gardens. The lavender was still in bloom and the play of light along the 'Avenue of Immensity' made the walk to the goddess, Ceres, and the 'Terrace of Infinity' even more magical. Once more we stepped out to the edge of the world and looked down and across and away to the ruler edge of the sea.
Returning to Amalfi, we enjoyed lunch on the terrace at 'da Gemma.' The waiter remembered us from last year which was lovely and we all ordered the famed 'Caprese three ways' for our entree. After messing about in the shops buying stationary and some ceramics we boarded the ferry to Positano where we had less than 5 minutes for an interchange. Amber raced to buy tickets and fortunately we leapt on to the last ferry back to Capri!
More art was purchased in Capri, this time of the oil variety. Amber and David bought a beautiful painting of the Faraglioni and both Mum and Gemma bought smaller canvases each. This is clearly an artist's paradise! The spending continued as both Gemma and Amber bought four more colourful 'Venice glasses' that feature stripes or spots, and then we concluded our glorious day with all four of us going out to dinner at 'Aurora.'
