Up nice and early for a trip to Lama'anayin. Initially with a couple from the Virgin Islands who were all about the twitching. I'm not. Still, an hour pootering around on the water looking at herons, bats and lizards was pleasant enough. Just missed a crocodile, though. Apparently.
Turns out everyone else on the real boat was waiting for us while we were getting free sugar from the local factory (this is true).
Then we all went quite fast to the Mayan site, a mere 25 miles away. Lots of facts, Mel Gibson is a nutter etc., but I didn't climb the big thing. Far too old. It was very hot, but we were well looked after.
The journey home was great, with beer, rum and superfast speedboat overtaking.
Once again, I was nearly in a bit of stuck trouble. I got off with everyone else at a landing and checked with the Virgin Islands' couple's driver if he was dropping me back into town. I thought it was only a 10 minute walk if not. He advised I needed to get back on the boat - and he was right. I was still 10 miles away. What bothers me is the boat's captain never mentioned this and would happily have left me to find my own way. Y'know, like the bus driver yesterday. Hmm.
Still, it meant I had a lovely final trip back and we nearly crashed into a sugar barge to boot. Exciting.
The early evening was spent in the company of the town's Walter Mitty and a reasonable meal meant I had time to make some decisions*. Which is good.
Back on the chicken bus tomorrow. Deep joy. Think I might try to beach it then...
*And the main decision is this Track of the Day.
Cheers!
