Iguazu Falls (Argentina)
January 25th - January 26th
Day 327 - Day 328
Since we knew we had a couple more days here we decided to give ourselves a chill day. We were also a bit worried about the weather and decided to give it a day before heading to the Argentinian side of the falls.
It was nice not to do anything and relax in our room with aircon and sleep! We had a walk around in the afternoon before heading to the viewpoint of all three country borders (Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil) for sunset. It is set against two Rivers but it was a bit disappointing as there were so many people there.
On our last full day we headed to the Argentinian side of Iguazu falls. It was an early start catching the bus at 7.40am to try and avoid some of the masses. The hostel had given us a good guide on which order to do the walks to avoid the tour groups.
We first walked along the upper falls trail, it was us, lots of water and a handful of other people. Beautiful. I was so happy that the weather was perfect too, clear blue skies and lots of sunshine. My only problem was the animals wandering around; we saw monkeys and coaties. I was so sure they were going to attack me but Chris insisted I needed to 'man up'.
After that we headed to the lower falls trail, again the views were beautiful and amazing. It is like a scene from Jurassic park, like a land that time forgot. I kept expecting the dinosaurs to roam out of the trees and drink from the river.
We then decided to do the short boat trip that gets very close to the waterfalls and even in them. It was crazy; I loved it. Everyone got soaking wet. It was a fun experience.
We saved the best to last and got the train up to the 'devil's throat'. This part was right at the top of the falls where there is a walkway running across the top of the falls to a viewpoint. Again it was amazing, the views were good but the sheer volume of water was crazy. I have never seen anything like it. We even caught sight of the infamous rainbows.
All in all it was a spectacular day but I am not looking forward to the 20+ hour journey back to Buenos Aires tomorrow.
